“We’ve had people ask, how could you have your son arrested? We’ve been the ones to get warrants on him before, and sent him to prison. You’ll do anything you have to, to save your child’s life. I’d much rather go visit him in prison, as him be dead. People are going to judge you no matter what you do in life. It doesn’t matter.” Debbie Adams, Former Lab Technician, Disabled, Letcher County Farmer’s Market; Jeremiah, Kentucky. 👉 page link in profile 👈 #centralappalachia #appalachia #appalachian #kentucky #letchercounty #farmersmarket #buylocal #mountainmama
“Pine Mountain is the second highest place in the state of Kentucky, and it’s as steep as a cow’s face.” Dock Frazier, Pastor & Owner, KC Barns (Kingdom Come Barns), Vendor, Letcher County Farmers’ Market; Kingdom Creek, Outside of Whitesburg, Kentucky. 👉 page link in profile 👈 #centralappalachia #appalachia #appalachian #kentucky #letchercounty #farmersmarket #buylocal #pastor
“The train stopped, and all, and I went up to him [John L. Lewis], this is awful to tell, but I did do it. John L. Lewis was a real tall man. He bent down to me and said ‘hello’. I said, ‘John L. Lewis is a SOB.” [She was 8 years old at the time]. “We lost our home in March of this year. A mudslide hit it, took it off of its foundation, and crumbled it.” Keith Adams, Magistrate for District 4 of the Letcher County Fiscal Court; Blackey, Kentucky. 👉 page link in profile 👈 #centralappalachia #appalachia #appalachian #kentucky #easternky #letchercounty #magistrate
"If you ever do anything with bees, once you start, you’re hooked. You’ll be doing them from now on, because they’re so fascinating. I’ve got the bees back on a strip [mine] job, my son’s property, which is a good place to have it, because they’ve got plenty clover. They’ve reseeded it good in clover, and things that the bees really like. It worked out real good, and it’s built up now until it’s become a job, instead of a hobby. The bees are fascinating. They’ve got a structure, a hierarchy that they follow. We still make beehives and things as they did back in Biblical times. We’re losing our bees. People in the United States don’t understand what’s happening with the bees. Two years ago, in the United States, we lost eighteen percent of our bees. Last year, we lost forty percent of our bees. This year, we’re on track to lose fifty percent of our bees. If we lose our bees, you’re going to lose your fruit, and lose your nuts, because that’s what does your pollination. I’ve lost eight hives already this year." Teddy W. Ratliff (they call me ‘Ted’ around here), Retired Military, Bee Keeper and Owner/Uncle Ted’s Honey; Thornton, Kentucky, Letcher County. 👉 page link in profile 👈 #centralappalachia #appalachia #appalachian #kentucky #easternkentucky #letchercounty #bees #beekeeping #beekeeper #allaboutthebees #honey #appalachianpride
