Time for Closure
@sahlintalas
A raven arrived with Leliana’s response: first, a small report on clan Lavellan’s last known whereabouts, and then the permission Aylen needed to separate from their current group to ‘investigate’ matters. She saved the note regarding clan Lavellan, buried somewhere under the contents of her satchel, and went to discuss things with the scouting group there in Emprise du Lion to let them know she’d be on her way.
They’d need provisions: food for the first part of the trip, and she could hunt for the rest of it. It was just the two of them, and hunting for two was not that hard a task. She’d need sharp arrows, bowstring to spare, a few more things. While off getting everything ready, she left Sahlin a note:
“Got Leliana’s raven. I’m getting what we might need. We leave in the morning.”
She didn’t think she was ready for this trip: then again, she was pretty sure she’d never be fully ready for it. Going back to her brother’s grave... Which was hardly what one could call a grave. No rituals, no nothing. She’d buried him herself, and then had ran off in a panic caused by her guilt. She’d not been to the place ever since, but she would remember where it was: it was hard to forget such things.
She already had some provisions ready, though it would be best to travel light. Should she prepare a mount? She didn’t know if Sahlin rode.
Nightmare
@sahlintalas || continued from here
He woke with a start, shooting upright and fighting a moment with his blankets before he caught the sound of his own breathing - a rapid, panicked pant that sounded ragged in the dim darkness. There were embers still flickering in the campfire, but the darkness swallowed the rest of the world. He stared into it a moment, sweat thick on his brow, before curling himself up into a ball and squeezing his eyes shut to rid himself of the adrenaline coursing through his veins.
Nightmares. It was not new, but that did not make it pleasant. Why shouldn’t he have nightmares, with the blood on the snows in their wake? It was all too familiar, too close…close enough he had already nearly lost himself once down in the springs where they had fled that night. He gritted his teeth, blinking his eyes back open, and swallowed the last of his heavy breaths.
He needed a drink. He pushed himself from his blankets, now loose about him. He crawled across towards his pack, digging a moment through it before drawing forth a waterskin, which he opened and took a deep swill from before he realized there were eyes on him. He had woken her.
He turned his gaze to the side, across the fire’s remains, and his eyes alighted on Aylen’s green across the space between them. He said nothing, merely swallowed down the water, and then gave a quiet sigh.
She’d been asleep, but on most occasions she was more of a light sleeper. A life out in the wild, and the habits of a hunter, had made her used to that. So when Sahlin startled awake with gasping breaths, of course she woke up too. She immediately sat up, surprised with the suddeness of it all, and green eyes looked for the source of the noise.
Aylen felt a bit less alarmed when she saw it was Sahlin who’d awaken her, though clearly not intentionally. She noticed his uneven breaths, and the light layer of sweat on his brow, and frowned with concern.
“A bad dream?” she asked, her voice but a whisper in the night. “Are you alright?” He didn’t look alright, of course he wasn’t. She experienced nightmares too, and... more often than she admitted out loud. Waking up after a nightmare never felt alright.
She makes me wary. I care for her, and her friendship means more to me than I know how to say, because she has shown me a lot about how it could be to be one of the People, even if that thought also frightens me and saddens me. I don't understand a lot about her, though I think I understand the quieter things. She's loud and drags me out of my comfort zone at times, but I think even when that's a bit hard, that's a good thing. She doesn't just abandon me there. She supports and teaches me.
Tell my muse how they make your muse feel.
//It makes me so happy that they can learn from each other. Their whole friendship is a learning experience for the two, and they support each other through that experience, through good and bad <3 And god, thanks Sahlin for putting up with my smol, talkative and messy smol elf XD She really appreciates it too!
"Confused, and like I'm not enough, but hopeful that I also might be, and so encouraged to try. Home, but not the home I've known. A little threatened, imposed upon, but also always welcome. Like my boundaries are being pushed, but not in ways that hurt. Instead, in ways that grow."
Tell my muse how they make your muse feel.
// I totally get the confused and threatened part XD I know how Aylen is sometimes... overwhelming for Sahlin. But it’s so sweet and I’m ghjshgkjhk at the home part. Ahgjhgksdhgjdks <3
@sahlintalas
"I don't know where to go, but I need to leave." @sahlintalas (winter palace or some gala maybe?)
A moment away - @sahlintalas
She glanced over at him, raising her eyebrows. If he wanted to leave, he could’ve just done so without telling anyone, but he’d come to her and told her anyway.
“Could I go too? I’m a little out of my element here.” She’d become tired of the odd looks, and some fresh air in a less crowded area would be wonderful. She couldn’t wait to get out of her formal uniform, too. Ugh, so tight and stiff.
"Lethallan - Aylen - I need your help." He wouldn't meet her eyes, and his gaze was narrowed as he stared off a little at some fixed point halfway between himself and the floor. Too big, too much, too many thoughts and not enough time. But in this he did need help. The work had to be his. But he couldn't manage it on his own. And of anyone, she could help, because she already did. @sahlintalas (sorry on phone so not logged in)
She turned to him at the request, head tilting slightly and ears twitching with curiosity. Even though she found his look a little odd, she didn’t question it at the moment- just giving him a nod instead.
“Of course, how do I help?” she offered, ready to provide assistance.@sahlintalas

SEND ME ಠ_ಠ TO KNOW AN INAPPROPRIATE THOUGHT MY MUSE HAS HAD ABOUT YOURS.
“Kind of want to tickle him. Is he ticklish? Find a time when he’s not working and doesn’t have anything in his hands-... No. Aylen. Don’t go about startling people like that, even less so when it’s Sahlin. Don’t startle Sahlin.”
“He has a pretty voice. He should know that. Is it weird that I think of when he sang that song when I’m trying to get back to sleep after nightmares? It’s more soothing than singing it myself, sometimes.”
“Would his ears tickle if I touched them? NO. AYLEN. What did we say about startling or tickling him? Would you like if someone randomly touched your ears? Nooo....”
“He smiles real nice. I like it when he smiles. It’s contagious when he does. No, Aylen, don’t stare at his smile... Too late. I’m staring.”
“It’s kind of strange looking at him in the eye. It’s like looking at my own. Weird.”
“He has so many freckles. I hadn’t noticed. Can I count them??? Aylen you’re staring again. Stop staring. Stop.”
