Today I went to a Father’s Day March here in Tucson in support of undocumented families threatened with being separated through detention and deportation. This family’s mother has been in sanctuary in a local presbyterian church for a while now while citywide (statewide?) campaign centered around her known as Let Rosa Stay. Another family being threatened is a mother of three being unable to explain to her children where their father is because her husband was detained this past Sunday by police even after Tucson police said they would not be enforcing Arizona’s racist SB1070 law late last year. Roman Escobar was pulled over by a police officer for a minor traffic violation and said officer called la migra to take him away. Miriam Escobar is currently waking up early in the morning to cook and sell food to support her family in these distressing times. She began crying halfway through her speech to the marchers who attended. There will be a protest on Tuesday June 23rd 5:00 PM at City Hall to keep the police accountable.
