Voy a explicar esto en inglés para que los enganchados al hashtag #HOMwork me puedan seguir: . Week 2 of @homsweethom’s challenge. The assignment was to redo an old piece using the skills we have now. We had to choose an old piece that we remember being very proud of at the time. So I chose the cover of my first graphic novel, which was published in December of 2011. This illustration is very important to me, because that year I started a biographical webcomic on Tumblr, which became much more popular than I expected and let me became a professional cartoonist and illustrator. I started the webcomic in April and at the end of that year I was working as a cartoonist for a magazine and this book came out. At that age I couldn’t imagine it, but currently I’m making comics for a living. Actually, I started the webcomic as a drawing practice. It took me ages to draw a single panel. Also, I was interested in lettering (thanks to @jessicahische’s incredible work) but I had no clue to draw a lettering piece myself (YOU CAN TELL 😂). I could feel that something was wrong with those letters, but in general I was quite proud of the result 😬🔫. Years after, working as a cartoonist, I felt the need to improve my design skills. I took several courses (thank you, @skillshare 👊💥), bought some books, discovered hundreds of wonderful letterers and practiced a lot. So here’s my progress. . I also changed a lot my drawing style, my taste and my process. I used to draw only with pencil and now I use my beloved Cintiq. The characters on the illustration are my family (the one on the left is supposed to be me 🤓) and I usually have a framed print in my studio, as a family portrait. Nowadays I would design a very different cover, but I wanted to keep the main composition to compare easily the progress. . In case that you’re curious, the webcomic is letspacheco.com. I keep all the archives (they’re in Spanish, though). . By the way, I still have to do week one’ HOMwork, but I found it still quite hard for my current lettering skills 😅. . #lettering #illustration #letspacheco
