LEGO Ninjago Big Bang Build Event!
Toys“R”UsTimes Square
1514Broadway at 44th Street, New York, NY
March 28, 2015 @ 12:00pm – 1:30pm
Lego, a timeless classic enjoyed by children from all around the world throughout the decades, was one of my favorite pastimes growing up so it’s no wonder that the Boy has developed a keen interest in these tiny blocks as well. These days, it seems that Lego has grown even larger with their merchandising and brand with even more characters, sets and themes.
They even have a blockbuster hit movie, several TV series’, and books featuring a cast of interesting characters like Ninjago. If you’re not familiar with Lego Ninjago, they are part of the Ninja collection blending a mix of feudal Japanese settings with modern fixtures.
I confess I’m not very familiar with any of the characters but in short, there is a team of 5 ninjas that battles villains seeking to destroy their world and each member wears a different colored outfit: red, black, green, white and blue. Kids seem to love it and that was clearly shown by the amount of eager children who all showed up for the Ninjago event at Toys R Us today.
We arrived at noon when the event began and there were already a stream of Ninjago fans and their families waiting in line to get a chance to build and take home their very own Ninjago mask inspired by their favorite warrior. The Boy chose the red ninja, and we quickly pieced together the tiny Lego pieces at a station that was set up by the Jurassic Park dinosaur.
When we finished our project, we received our very own mission card and embarked on a scavenger hunt following clues throughout the store collecting letters that we later had to later unscramble in order to unlock the key word. *Hint* the answer was: Ninja. When we solved the puzzle, we were rewarded with our very own Ninjago mask.
There were a lot of people and it was very chaotic but I honestly had a wonderful time. I was so impressed with this marketing strategy that was used to promote the Ninjago Lego today because it was something we all got to do together as a family. Most importantly, though, the Boy and his friend really enjoy their time here too, making great memories, and that’s what really matters.
