💭 Since skincare is slowly creeping back to my stories after a few months of MIA I wanted to share a little skin confessions with yall because I know just how much dealing with skin issues can be debilitating and disheartening. • 📍 For many of us, our skincare journey has been greatly inspired by years of constant struggles with dermatitis, rosacea, acne or milia (among thousands of other reasons), but although one tries to surrender and 'accept' oneself despite these predicaments because we keep hearing 'love yourself, love yourself', that simply isn't always realistic. • 📍 The truth is that suffering from skin problems greatly affects your self esteem, and if the cause of your predicament is a somatization of stress factors in your life, one can often feel like your skin is a billboard for things you'd like to keep private. • 📍 My dermatologist once told me how much she suffered with acne as a young adult and just how much she understood the negative psychological effects it could have on people. Then she said: when a patient comes into my office I can tell how much they are being affected psychologically by their skin, and I wish I could give them a hug. • 📍...and thats how I feel too. Today, if anyone is struggling from skin related issues, I want to send you and internet hug and tell you I know how tough it can be. Hang in there but it's ok to cry or feel frustrated. Stick to a routine for a while, skin takes time to heal- but I'm sure you already knew that. More than anything, know that an internet stranger is thinking about you and wishing your healing journey is easy on you 💛 #thechicspirit #skincareissues #realtalk #letstalkskin (at Milan, Italy)
