Remember me like your favorite song, Memorize every word Play me on loop Put me on every playlist there is to exist Play me on repeat until I am burned, Until I am etched in your memories I want to be that song that haunts you, The one you unconsciously hum all day long The one you keep in a box - treasured Record me in that old cassette tape That you play to your kids one day and you'll say, "This is my favorite song," You'll smile, one that reaches your eyes As you sing along to a tune that never gets old Sing me like you mean it even after all these years.

Creative writing class prompt: Write how you want to be remembered.

let me still write about you long after the epilogue;

let me still write about your eyes, my favorite shade of brown, long after the days when its color will fade in those pictures saved in the back of my head.

let me still write about your laugh, one of my favorite sounds, long after the days when its echoes will fade into silence.

let me still write about your stories, my favorite pieces of literature, long after the days when its ink burned in my memories will fade into indecipherable symbols.

let me still write about the way you kiss, and my favorite aftertaste, long after your name fades away from these lips.

let me still write about you long after whatever we had was over.

I wish you meant it then Every night when you said you miss me, too. I wish I never had to read through your thoughts about her Your should’ve beens and could’ve beens And how much you wanted to go back Because every night you said you miss me, too I wish I wasn’t just another notch in your belt Just a temporary fix who’s not even worth more than a five letter word apology, Who’s not even worthy of a response and sensible explanation, Because every night you said you miss me, too.

I hope you remember there were nights when you said you missed me, too.

impatient; but would for you even if it takes the longest time. she spends hours and days waiting, even when she's not even sure what she's waiting for. but she waits. she's waiting for you.

flame-footed; but could never run away from you. she was used to running away from things and from people but with you, her feet seemed to be glued to this cold hard ground and she couldn't run. not that she felt like doing so.

guarded; but she opened up her world for you. she spent years building up her defenses, constructing her walls. she was scared of letting people in. but for you, she broke down her walls in a heartbeat. even if you never asked her to do so.

acrophobic; but now she's free falling. she might be bound to lie shattered but she doesn't mind. she lost all the rational part of her brain when you came around. she's free falling again. free falling, for you. into you.

tell me, what's so different about you? tell me what powers do you have? tell me,when did you become her only exception?

Remember me and the nights we stayed up late, like we’re watching stars together and not under the ceilings our own homes - kilometers away from each other. Gazing, as we talked about things that matter and things that don’t.

Remember me and the times I bared my soul to you the way I never did with anyone else. Like stripping my clothes one one by one until there was nothing left. Remember me and the unspoken thoughts I’ve always had, the bizarre situations we pondered upon. The things we will never let anybody else hear. Because nobody else understood.

Remember me like the way you remember every word to your favorite song. Play me on loop, add me on every playlist you have, listen to me every fucking minute until I am burned, I am etched in the back of your head. I wanna be that song that haunts you, that song you unconsciously hum all day long.

Remember me like your favorite childhood memory. The one that brings a smile on your face. The one you like to reminisce every once in a while. The one you tell every one about. The one written in the pages of your tattered journal that you keep under your bed. The one you know you’d still remember no matter how old you’re going to get.

Remember me like the way i know I’m going to remember you.

In every dream,  you emerge - out of nowhere, like snow in a midsummer night. And your eyes still look like I'm going to write a poem about it for the rest of my life.

I want to hear you speak your mind. I want to hear you talk about what you're thinking of, your dreams, your spontaneous ideas, and your questions that could rumble the universe. I want you to hear you speak of the past and what you want for the future.

I want you to drown me in your 2 am thoughts.
