Here is another one. For another lesson, this one is a poem based on my interpretation of the message conveyed in the song, "Ang Pipit" by Levi Celerio.

I call it:

Lost Music

In this world

Pipits embrace their freedom

Dancing up above

Where the skies are clear

And the sun is bright

Their trills resonating in their throats

Applauding their life

But one by one

The songbirds began to fall

Captured by human hands

Feathers pulled and plucked

Now they lay silent

On a bed of false grass

Watching the glow of the sun

From behind their gilded cage

Music now dead in their hearts

Google honors Levi Celerio with doodle on his 108th birthday

Tech titan Google has made a doodle to honor prolific Filipino musical genius Levi Celerio on his 108th birth anniversary.

Celerio, who was born in Manila in 1910, was a composer and lyricist with over 4,000 songs to his name, many still popular today. His folk, Christmas, and love songs embodied Filipino life and traditions.

Filipino music phenom Levi Celerio is celebrating his 108th birth anniversary today April 30, and Google is celebrating him with a well-deserved Google Doodle!

Born in Manila in 1910, Celerio has written over 4,000 songs, including “Sa Ugoy ng Duyan”, and “Saan Ka Man Naroroon”.

He was also the youngest member of the Manila Symphony Orchestra, thanks to a scholarship he received from the Academy of Music in Manila, but it was his unique talent of making an instrument out of a leaf that earned Celerio international acclaim; he was named by the Guinness Book of world Records as the only leaf player in the world.

In 1997, he was named National Artist for Literature and Music.

Google Doodle depicts Celerio at his most unique, playing music using just a leaf. The doodle, in case there’s someone out there being too careful, is clickable and will lead users to more information about Celerio.

Earlier this month, Google honored Francisco Balagtas.
