without sydney park, levi wouldn’t be where he was now. there was no doubt about that in his mind. the night he wound up at the bar she worked at seemed like he’d come to a crossroads and happened to choose the path that led to her. another shitty relationship --- if you could even call them relationships --- down the drain. when he happened to find her being harassed, his instincts took over. he pretended to be her boyfriend that night and the rest was history.
the moment he saw her it was as if something in him felt as if he’d come home after a long, hard day. the more he got to know her, he wanted more than a some brief physical connection with someone who’d forget about him the moment he left town. whenever he had to leave her to return to the gulf, she was all that occupied his mind until he returned. she was his first thought in the morning and his last before drifting off to sleep.
this past year had been hard on levi. he lost two close friends.he could have lost his own life. he had to deal with the aftermath of it all. if he hadn’t had sydney there with him every step of the way, levi wasn’t sure where he’d be right now. because of her and their baby, he was finally making moves to fix the relationships he’d ruined the night he left home.
coming back to nevada was a huge step for levi. it was a step towards reconciliation with his sister. it was a step towards facing his fears and being with his father, finally accepting that he wouldn’t be the man he remembered again. he couldn’t start his own family without reconciling with the one he left behind. levi wouldn’t have gotten there without sydney supporting him.
starting over in a new place from scratch wasn’t going to be simple but, levi thought they’d been adjusting well. they bought their first house and planned to turn it into a home together. he’d gotten a job thanks to his sister, a step in the right direction. his girlfriend started working at the diner owned by the motel where he worked. things were going well.
levi steps into the diner, eyes scanning the place. he smiles seeing the christmas decorations he helped her get out of storage starting to make their appearance. his shift was over and he could have gone home but he chose to come to the shooting star grille to pass time until sydney’s shift was done. it made sharing a car easier when they went home at the same time.
he leans against the counter, stopping to talk to one of the patrons. “ i’m lookin’ for a waitress, about this tall, ” he says holding his hand up to below his chest. “ dark brown hair, the cutest little thing you’ll ever see. ” a grin appears when he sees her spot him. he nods in her direction making the man he’d been talking to look as well. “ found her. ”
