it's the little things
i just witnessed someone type:
" she looks like a fishing lewer "
a tiny alarm sounds in my mind because what he means is " a fishing lure "
which is not a spelling mistake but a hilariously obvious misunderstanding of of the colloquial phrase "fishing lure".
i wonder if he just misheard it one time and from then on, heard that word sounding like that but only in the context of being after "fishing"...? because i'd say he probably would recognize how to spell and pronounce "lure" if it were used in a separate context like, "she was drawn towards the lure of the lights..."
i love when people do this though-- the whole mispronunciation thing is so common in conversation and maybe i shouldn't be amused... but i am, every damn time.
