OC Spotlight: Magister Arys
This is the OC Spotlight I was going to post before I remembered my middle child (Olennor) hadn’t gotten her spotlight yet. (I’m not even kidding.)
Whoo! Where do I begin with this guy?
Targyn Arys is a Lewodan from planet Lewoda. The canon is a little inconsistent with describing Lewodan society and government. In Alien Force its an Empire, but in Omniverse its a Republic. To reconcile this, I’ve just decided that Lewoda is an Imperial Republic -ya know, like Rome. Before it fell.
Targyn and his twin were born into a Noble family. In fact, they have an uncle whom was very powerful in Lewodan government. (And by “was” I mean “used to be”.)
Y’all remember Zaw-Veenull. He only ever appeared in one episode, but it was a fucking memorable episode! It was also the episode that set the precedent in canon for Targyn’s back story. (See “Con of Rath”.)
After Cicely returns to Lewoda with the Tiffin alive and well, Saw-Veenull falls out of favor in the Senate and loses the power and political pull he once enjoyed. In an effort to get some of this power back, he makes alliances with some off-world factions that would like to see a return to the Olde ways of diplomacy of trading Lewodan children for peace. To seal this alliance, Saw-Veenull sends his nephews as tribute.
Targyn and his twin go to the slaughter.
They were a bit older than the Tiffin was. The Tiffin was -I imagine- the Lewodan equivalent of an infant, while Targyn and his twin were closer to... oh, lets keep it in the theme and say they were 10. Note they have developed more humanoid torsos and especially arms. The arms are important because as they were about to be eaten, Targyn manages to grab a toothpick from the table (the toothpick is the size of a nightstick in relation to his body), and stabs the alien trying to eat him before he can be swallowed.
The alien chokes and Targyn manages to climb out and survive.
Sadly, his twin was eaten and died.
Targyn runs and somehow manages to make his way home.
By this time, the Tiffin is old enough to start taking a role in things and places Targyn under his protection and calls for, not just Zaw-Veenull’s removal from the senate, but has him thrown in prison too.
The moment Targyn comes of age, he enrolls in the Plumbers Academy. He has noble dears of making the universe safe so no other child has to go through what he went through and all that jazz. But he was also mentally and emotionally traumatized by the event and has some undiagnosed and untreated PTSD. Not long after achieving the rank of Magister, he is on a mission where an event happens that triggers a flash back. He kinda goes a little crazy and attacks other members of his squad and has to be subdued.
As punishment for this event, he is reassigned from Lewoda to the Null Void team under Magister Rook Blonko. After Rook tales over Max Tennyson’s job in real space, and Kevin Levin takes over Rook’s job in the Null Void, Arys requests a transfer back to Lewoda. His request is approved. But he learns that Zaw-Veenull has been released from prison (for some reason) and chooses to remain in the Null Void.
