I just found Sam kind of boring and whiny. I really really loved the classic tomb raider games so the reboot was rather meh for me. I did enjoy that Lara was off on this gay mission to rescue her princess but that storyline felt a little too classic fairytale except gay for me. Sam just was not interesting and didn't feel like a complex enough character for me to care about her. I actually didn't know people loved her so much...

eh, idk. i thought sam was optimistic and bright and kind of offset lara’s stoic-ness a bit, they made for a good combo for me. i wasn’t necessarily super attached to sam by herself, it was more the relationship between them that i really enjoyed, the dynamic they had. like sometimes there’s characters you might not stan on their own, but they have good chemistry or dynamics with another character that make them shine. 

a good example is dragon age. sera is a character that a LOT of people really hate from DAI. i hated her at first. it was only after romancing her and seeing her relationship with the inquisitor developed that i started to really love her.

Lara wasn't really a lone wolf in the old games, she was madly in love with Amanda we just mostly only saw the fallout from that and little flashbacks of her caring. But she was also really attached to her mother and father and did a lot in pursuit of them/their unfinished projects. I don't consider her much of a lone wolf in the newest one either and I actually like how its more of a throwback to the old ones. I wasn't much of a fan of the 2013 one tho, and never cared about sam beyone how gay

gonna be honest, i never played the original games. i was pretty young when they came out and only ever knew of them because my dad played them. i’m not overly familiar with the history of lara croft. 

tbh i’m surprised that there’s people who didn’t care for sam. she was a pretty likable character but eh
