sad songs for dirty lovers; casey & lexie
It’d been a nice supply haul, the type that made the loss settle quickly. Not many must’ve passed through the complex before their arrival, as they had enough to spread out evenly between the sparse amount of survivors that remained. Casey got some clothes -- nothing too fancy, a checkered flannel, one of the buttons missing at the top, without a shirt to wear underneath. He settled for trousers, the only pair of pants he could find that weren’t too tight around his hips. He felt like he was teaching again, or was getting ready for school, slipping them up his ankles. Found some bandages to fix up the cuts on the bottom of his feet-- some shoes! A pair of sneakers. One without holes, he was happy to note.
There was a lodge. Part of some old vineyard, they figured out once they got the blonde -- the ditz with the immunity -- to scrub the spores off an old sign. Didn’t take too long to crack open the wine cellar and to find it untouched. The sun was already hanging low in the sky, and they were given a short amount of time to explore and scavenge some more before they all agreed to meet back up at the Motel 6 around the corner. He was leaning against a post, eyes locked on her figure, when she tilted her jaw up to meet his gaze. Casey tried to skirt about it, act subtle. Thought a head nod would be an appropriate gesture. Once the ‘meeting’ dispersed, Casey made claim to a motel room.
He left the door slightly ajar in hopes that Lexie would soon step through and join him. He popped the cork on the wine, tried to scrummage around the cupboards for some glasses. None without cracks, or chips on the rims. Only a broken microwave, and a collection of dust. No spores-- he made sure to double check. A bathroom without a shower curtain. The bed only had a thin sheet and a couple of pillows, but he’d survive. He hadn’t complained about the cold yet, not even when spending the majority of the day stuck in his underwear. He was lounging back against the mattress, making sure his feet were hanging off the edge of the bed, when the door squeaked open. Casey was drinking wine from the bottle -- used to love wine (especially the cheap kind) when he ate dinner with Noah and Rachel -- and had an arm slung behind his head. “You were amazing today.” He said, eyes lit up in slight inebriation and a complete attraction for the woman standing before him.
