The staff of The Sensational She-Hulk riffed on Batman Year One and all the hype surrounding the theatrical release of Batman (1989) in issue 19, cover date September 1990. The issue introduced Nosferata (Purple Hayes), Jack Serious, Timothy Hayes (dies), Blair Hayes (dies), Freda, city of Visigoth, Dorkham Asylum, and Hayes Manor. They were created by Steve Gerber and Bryan Hitch. After witnessing the murder of her parents in 1969 by a mugger who asked, "Does Satan dance the funky chicken 'neath the harvest moon?" Purple Hayes grew up to be the costumed vigilante Nosferata. Her bat inspiration came from getting hit in the face by a rubber bat. Her arch nemesis, Serious Jack, was using chemicals to kill people with a frown on their face. ("Year Zero" The Sensational She-Hulk 19, Marvel Comic Event)
