Summary: left by your boyfriend in the cold Lex takes you home for Christmas Eve
Lex hadn’t intended to pick anyone up on the side of the road when he left for the office this morning. He had went about his business as if nothing weird were going to happen that day. The office was relatively quiet due to the impending holiday and he liked it that way. It let him think and it also let him see who was more dedicated to work than to family and in Lex’s eyes career came above everything. A good career meant money and money meant being able to take care of yourself and maybe a family if you really wanted that sort of thing. He went about his day, working and reading, slacking just a little in preparation to take the next two days off for Christmas even though he didn’t really want too but he knew that even the best businessmen needed a break to recover from the stress of the end of the year so he would do his due diligence to relax. Then he left the office and things changed.
He noticed you waiting outside as he left the building. He vaguely recognized you from a meeting, knowing you were in technology, or maybe accounting? He couldn’t be sure, but either way you worked for him. As he passed you on the way to get an early dinner he said hello and asked why you were outside in the cold.
“Just waiting for my boyfriend to pick me up, he’s running late I think,” you said. He had nodded and headed off down the street. After his dinner and a drink he walked back towards the building, headed into the parking garage and noticed you again, but this time you were sleeping on a bench near the garage entrance. You looked a little blue and your skin was cold to the touch. Apparently your late boyfriend never showed and despite just wanting to leave Lex knew it would be bad publicity for an employee to die outside of the building at Christmas. He sighed and picked you up, carrying you to his car.
Once at his house Lex had the butler carry you to a room and get you some clean clothes that one of the maids dressed you in before tucking you in and making sure you were warming up. He even had his doctor come by and check to make sure you weren’t seriously ill or injured. He told Lex you would just need warmed up and probably would have a bad cold. Anything worse he could come back and check again once you woke. Since Lex had no idea when that would be he left a maid to watch you for the night and went to bed himself.
You woke in the morning very confused, having no idea where you were. You sat straight up and looked around frantic for a minute. A young woman was sitting nearby, setting the book she was reading down and smiled at you.
“Hello, I’m Gina, Mr. Luthor will be glad to know you’re awake,” she said. You furrowed your brow, confused. “He found you yesterday, you were passed out on a bench?” This jogged your memory some. You had meant to meet your boyfriend, no wait, he was supposed to pick you up. But then he texted you that instead he was moving out and you had no way home. You had already been waiting for an hour and you were cold and tired. You had intended to sit down for a minute, get your bearings, then head to the bus stop and go home. You must have fainted, passed out completely even. And then Lex Luthor came along and brought you to his home? That seemed a little crazy. While you were sorting your thoughts Gina had sent word to Lex that you were awake and he soon entered the guest room.
“Hello Y/N, you feeling ok?” he asked. He knew your name? You couldn’t recall if you’d ever directly spoke to your big boss before but the fact that he knew your name threw you for a loop and for a moment you were speechless. Then you sneezed. “O please tell me you’re not seriously ill.” You shook your head.
“No, just a cold I think,” you said. He nodded and motioned for the maid to leave.
“Get her some cold medicine!” he called after them. “Are you hungry?” You heard and felt a strong rumble from your stomach.
“Yes, very much so,” you said. He nodded and motioned for you to follow him. And that is how you ended up spending Christmas Eve with Lex Luthor. By dinner time the two of you had actually bonded some, learning about each other and then he dropped a bomb on you.
“I hate Christmas, never saw the point in celebrating,” he said. “Unless you’re religious, then have a special mass, but if not, what is the point beyond spending money on gifts no one really cares about and seeing family you don’t even like?”
“You are too young to be so cynical,” you said simply. He looked at you, an eyebrow raising. “I love Christmas, it’s the one time a year people really put forth an effort to be kind and good to others. To give without expecting anything back. I think you’re just lonely. This big house and no friends or family have stopped by yet, no presents or decorations, nothing.” Lex was stunned into silence. He knew he wasn’t lonely. He didn’t need money-grubbing friends, and he really didn’t need family, but you seemed intent to believe that he wasn’t just a greedy kid trying to get more money, that he was more than that. And hell, maybe you were right. Lex sighed a little.
“Well, if you’re not busy for Christmas perhaps we can spend it together and then I won’t be lonely,” he said. You smiled at him.
“Of course, I would love to spend Christmas with you,” you said. “But we need to get a tree first. And if you’re lucky you can kiss me under the mistletoe.”
