It was rare that Jace found himself distracted before a mission, but as Isabelle’s fingers swept across one of the Institute’s many consoles, he found his gaze straying to his side, darting a glance at his parabatai before fixing his gaze forward once more.
“Do you have it?” Isabelle asked, cocking her head to the side as she spun on her heel to face them. She didn’t often take the lead on missions, but the Ravener nest had been located in a Seelie hideaway and Isabelle was by far the most experienced among them when it came to Fae customs.
Jace scanned the monitor and nodded, committing the layout to memory even though he knew it might bear no resemblance to it once they arrived. Seelies were unpredictable creatures at best, and their haunts were much the same... Despite preparations, one never truly knew what to expect when entering one of their lairs.
"Then I’ll met you at the portal chamber as soon as you gear up,” Isabelle said sweetly, curling her whip around her wrist. It gleamed silver in the dim light as she walked off, with Jace letting out a breath he didn’t even realize he’d been holding as she left.
In light of what had happened-- what was still happening-- with his parabatai, he didn’t know how someone who knew them both so well could remain so oblivious regarding their transgression; so sure was he that it was written all over his face. There were other Shadowhunters milling all about and Jace didn’t dare meet Alec’s gaze until they were at the weapons room, the chamber thankfully empty save for themselves.
The blade he favored hung in its customary position, but Jace bypassed it in favor of taking up Alec’s bow, holding it out for his parabatai to take.
“Do you think Isabelle suspects anything?”
