Katniss returned from putting Willow and Rye to sleep for the night, and was quick to inform Peeta of her success. She quickly shifted her feet to sit on a stool on the opposite side of the kitchen island. Peeta turned cautiously at the sound of one of the wooden legs dragging against the floor.
She lightly covered her mouth with one hand, only to inhale and hold in a small laugh. Her amusement was replaced with a calm tone, “They went down fast. Probably from all that play earlier.”
Peeta flashed a smile.
“Guess I did my job then,” he faked a yawn as he stretched his arms above his head, “Papa Mellark saves the day. Again,” there’s no harmful intent behind his words, to which Katniss catches on and nods slowly with pursed lips.
Peeta’s eyes flickered between her gaze and lips, slightly confused, slightly distracted by his wife.
“Am I crazy, or are you making a face, hun?” Not that he minds any face she makes, she’ll always be just as kissable.
Katniss’s expression became even less serious.
“Well, Mama Mellark,”
Peeta could never get used to the love of his life using his last name to refer to herself. He felt his stomach flutter for a single moment…
