London!
Never been to a film festival, never walked a red carpet, never stood in a pen for 3 hours with a wristband on that proved pointless, never stood a few feet away from a beautiful boy in a floral suit and wanting to touch his hair (is that strange?), and never had so much fun with a bunch of crazy girls, one I knew and the others I’d never met before. But thank you to @raraadsel @natures-cunning-ways @isitandwonder @stakemyentirelifeondreams @lovetheawesomeness for sharing this experience with me. Oh and the film is incredible and Timothee will break your heart. Here’s a few pics to give an idea of what a red carpet experience is like - just a lot of phones and fan girls screaming.
What's your opinion on "Beautiful Boy"?
LETTERBOXD REVIEW
i’ll post it here too
excuse the informality of this review but there’s just A LOT
- the cinematography is something i haven’t seen many people talk about. the setting of the home was tranquil and comforting which created a stark difference to the destruction that was going on within its walls. it meant that in david’s moments of reflection, you felt the weight of a different life passing you by too.- still on cinematography: the contrast of light and dark was effective. the ‘flashbacks’ were normally bright, reflecting the joyful times of nic’s childhood which helped the audience feel nostalgic about them too. this was juxtaposed considerably with the scenes of the present, where a dark colour palette encompassed everything. you felt claustrophobic which I can only imagine is how nic felt.- everyone keeps dragging the timeline of the film but I was never like ??? im not sure it’s supposed to MATTER when the flashbacks are, just that they’re symbolic and connected to the events that were happening now- also seen people claim they found it boring and repetitive. in this case, repetitive can’t be a criticism. obviously this was dramatized but it was still based on real events, in which nic and david went through this time and time again. it annoyed you that nic relapsed SO MANY TIMES ??? nic and david LIVED that- daisy, jasper and young nic were such GOOD ACTORS holy shit- okay I’m going to say it. i find it so HARD to see past steve carell’s character of michael scott. every time he shouted all i could hear was NO NO NOOOOOO GOD NO from The Office. I don’t want to drag his performance because he’s a talented actor who did David justice, but there were only a few moments where I truly found his performance compelling.- the soundtrack was beautiful. I saw a lot of comments beforehand saying the music was out of place but I would actually say the use of music was one of my favourite elements.- I try and be unbiased when I watch films with timothée in them but…..he is just pure fucking talent. there is not one single moment where i didn’t believe timothée had experienced every single thing nic sheff had. he is literally faultless in his performance. his moments of pure rage were convincing, his moments of reflection were compelling, his moments of taking drugs and the consequences were believable. from a perspective of having people in my life struggling with addiction, i am glad that they chose someone so capable to give all those struggling a voice and a face and bring this problem to the surface
Can’t WAIT to see Arctic in October at the London Film Festival!
I might do some giveaway badges to celebrate! Who’s coming? I might be able to get some badges to all 3 showings.
