Alright nonnie. Let’s get down to this.
So one, you have an issue that I, a writer of works of FICTION, and a disabled person deserve not to be able to see myself in the things I read. You see these fictional men who get you to orgasm every time, seem to know just when you are having a bad day, or magically make it so you don’t get UTIs if you don’t pee after sex, these men wouldn’t want to date someone who is a “perfect” person. Bucky Barnes is missing an arm, Clint Barton is deaf, Matt Murdock is blind, Just about every marvel character has ptsd. And those are just the ones off the top of my head. They can date who ever I want them to because they are my works of fiction inspired by these characters.
Two: I can and do take care of myself, every day is different but there are people who struggle and let’s not make their struggles any harder.
Three: being told you might die if you get treatment or you will die if you don’t is a terrible thing to be told at 22. I get the opportunity to tell the people in my life that I am dying every time they ask how I’m doing. And that shit sucks so let me have this.
Four: if you don’t like it don’t read it, but then don’t read any works of fiction that don’t directly apply to you. Reader works as a barista and you don’t, don’t read. Writers write what ever the fuck they want to write. Go touch some Fucking grass, and get the hell away from my page. Take your ableism somewhere else.
I don’t post these for attention. I post so that the person who feels like they will never get to see themselves in a fic have somewhere they can see themselves. Because we all deserve comfort, we all deserve to see ourselves in a work of fiction once in our lives.
