I’ve managed to translate almost a page of “An Fiach” (“The Hunt”), a two page story by Liam Ó Flaithearta (native of the Aran Islands). It’s about a dog chasing a rabbit on a rocky shore; given how Ó Flaithearta’s stories usually go, I expect a bad ending for one or both. My favorite phrases so far are “shrón le talumh” (“nose to the ground”) and “guala le gualainn” (“shoulder to shoulder”). It’s slow going, but some words are coming back to me. I’ve requested a collection in English from the library in hopes I’ll find a good translation to compare with my literal and dodgy efforts. #liamoflaherty #liamoflaithearta #anfiach #irish #translation #foclóir #dúil (at Longfellow) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce7cNCBMtMe/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
