An Interesting Consultation
As I walked into Steamworks for my librarian consult, I was prepared for the meeting to be like any other consult. I was prepared to take notes, and listen to someone spiel for about 45 minutes about databases and all sorts of research ideas. My meeting was the complete opposite.
Being familiar with each other, I sat down with Mr. Jensen and immediately we started talking about the VR system. After a few minutes of talking about that, he asked about my research topic and I explained it to him the best I could. The title Game of Thrones left my lips, and he instantly directed me to someone else in Steamworks that was a fan of the show.
We rolled our chairs over to his desk, and we instantly got into a conversation about the show.
As we continued to talk about this, I came to many conclusions and have figured out where I want my blog to lead itself into.
One of the conclusions we agreed upon was that Game of Thrones is very mixed in how they make their characters interact. So, if I wanted to include that series in my blog then I would have to make sure I am analyzing the series correctly. The characters and storylines are very complex, and taking one frame from an episode and delving into the issues of it will not be helpful to my blog’s overall view: racism in fantasy worlds. Instead of criticizing the popular series, I want to do it justice, and compliment how well the series is set up.
As we continued to talk about this topic, I realized how complex this blog would really be, and that is where this library consultation helped the most.
If I want to look into social issues in popular fantasy worlds, I will have to delve deeper and really look into these worlds and see how this popular social issue interacts with them.
