Thank you SO MUCH for your mcr and metal essay and the accompanying playlist. I've been trying to figure out why I like mcr so much, and I kept finding that a lot of my favorite elements were parts of the metal influence. I've been looking for a good entry point to listening to metal because of that (mostly by looking into bands ray has worn tshirts of lol) and that hasn't been the most successful strategy. So I really appreciate you putting together such an extensive list of influences and I can't wait to dive in! (Also, as someone who doesn't know much about music, I always enjoy hearing about music I like from people who do, so I enjoyed that very much even tho a lot it went over my head.)
ah! this is very kind of you to send- thank you so much for reading! I'm always so glad to know that people get real use out of the essay, it's what I'm most proud of, hearing people say that it's precipitated them getting into or at least starting to explore metal :) i hope your journey is fruitful and fulfilling from here on out haha. and i say it all the time but I'll always answer any questions or requests, i just enjoy providing my chem fans in particular a path through a genre they honestly might not have any familiarity with but which enriches the listening experience <3

Trick or treat!!! 😈
SURPRISE!!!!! IT'S VAMPIRE BINX!!!!!!!
Scary story for Halloween: early one morning my dad went hunting. He left before dawn because he wanted to be situated in the deer stand before the sun came up. Our family hunted on a little plot of land that belonged to a friend, a 10-minute ride away from our house on the 4 wheeler. He parked the 4 wheeler just inside the gate, and began the long walk to the stand.
As he walked in the dark, he passed under thick treecover and no longer had the moonlight to see by. He turned on his flashlight and saw eyes reflecting back at him from the brush a few feet ahead. Thinking it was a bedded-down deer, he quickly turned the flashlight off.
The eyes stayed lit.
He said the hair on the back of his neck stood up, because this was impossible, and his brain kind of went blank and he yelled "who's there?!" thinking subconsciously that someone was playing a prank on him.
The eyes stared for a moment, rotating as if the thing was cocking it's head back and forth, blinked, and went out.
My dad hi-tailed it to the stand, no longer caring about being quiet. He waited for the sun to come up before leaving. He didn't stay to hunt. He didn't want to be out there anymore.
He did investigate that patch of brush on his way back. He said it looked like something big had been bedded down there.
no that's literally so scary what the fuck
