They're Gone * Sibling AU with licetnemihi
March. A time when the spring time showers were ready to start taking over the city. Levi hated this time of year, for it made the days shorter and the nights come too soon-- and when that happened, he felt too sleepy to get any of his work done.
He was in his final semester of college, and his sister was just starting out. It was weird, going to school with his sibling after pretty much being isolated from his family for all this time. Initially, things had been pretty rocky since Levi hadn't made much of an effort to stay in contact with them, not because he didn't want to. Things on and around campus took precedence, and it was hard keeping his other priorities straight.
The first semester with her here was weird, but after Christmas break things tended to smooth out. It wasn't perfect, it wasn't ideal, but they were alright, and that was fine with him.
Levi had just returned from some field experience when his phone buzzed in his pocket. He lifted it to see the screen, but was horribly confused that the number showed no name, and it wasn't a number he recognized. Tentatively, he answered the call. "Hello?"
"Hello, is this Levi Ackerman?"
The man nodded, then realizing he was on the phone, he said aloud, "This is he."
"We are calling to deliver some grave news." Levi's heart dropped to his stomach immediately. He could take a guess as to what could have happened, and who it most likely involved.
His parents, to celebrate having the time and freedom to go out on their own, decided to take a small road trip to visit some family in France. He had told them to call him once they arrived but...
Well, he never got the call.
"We regret to inform you that your parents have been involved in a tragic accident. We did everything we could but..." Levi had started to tune them out then. He knew what they were going to say. That they tried every method under the book, but not heaven nor hell could have brought his parents back.
"We have already informed your sister about--"
"What?!" he exclaimed into the phone. "You told my fucking sister before you called me?!" He didn't give the man on the other hand a chance to breathe. He hung up the phone, threw it against his wall and darted out of his dorm hall and toward his sister's.
Entering the hall, he went straight toward the front desk. "Hina-- Delta. Ring me up. It's an emergency." Maybe it was the wild look on his face, but the desk attendant didn't ask questions, just buzzed the door open and allowed him through.
She was on the second floor, and he stormed right up to her door and tried to open it. When it didn't budge, he started banging on it with his fist. "Dee, open up the fucking door, kid!" Then louder, "I got the call, open up!"
