Do You Think You’re Real (Comic script)
Warren, do you believe in a god?
I….I’m not really sure I believe in any specific god but I believe in something, I suppose.
Oh, really? What is that something if I may ask?
I believe the ability to think up a god, to imagine, to create, is in itself something akin to a gift from something greater, even if that something greater is simply our own sentience.
Well then why not believe some sort of god altogether?
Because when people talk of gods they often say how much they love you then tell you stories of their wrath within the same breath. Does someone or something who truly loves you really wish to maim you for a small slight. I would like to not think there’s anything up there just watching and waiting for the next person to anger them so they can bring their power down on something so small and fragile in comparison.
…I see. What else do they say? What is a god in your eyes Warren?
Something that has a knowledge and power of in ways you couldn’t even begin to fathom. Something that we’ll never be able to comprehend. Something that understands all the intricacies of everything and everyone around because they played some willful hand in creating it all.
Do you think the gods love their creations?
In the same way a artists may feel about theirs I suppose. It may look upon you with great pride, that it has taken the time and effort to create something and that it came out so very beautifully. Or maybe it despises you on some level, thousands of glaring little flaws rising up to mock it no matter how many times it tries to to fix them, only to eventually give up and either smash them to bits in its frustration or abandon you altogether. Likely never to spare a thought to you again.
Hmm, do you think god hurts you because that’s what makes your story interesting?
…….What….
Well you described god as a artist, and writing is a art form, yes? If everything were nice and happy all the time, no drama, no pain, no grief, no tragedy or anything else of the sort, well that would make kind of a boring story after a bit, wouldn’t it?
….I suppose that would get rather dull after a bit, yes…
Do you think you’re a actual person then? Or perhaps you’re just a figment of your gods imagination. Something to put in any silly little scenario it pleases for their own entertainment. An actor in play that they put on in their own imagination.
It’s fine if you don’t believe in your god Warren, because at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter if you do. As far as their concerned you don’t exist outside of what they think up for you after all. Your whole existence is the creation from the mind of another, someone that you aren’t even real to.
But don’t you worry. Of course your god loves you, Warren. They wouldn’t have spent so much time creating you if they didn’t.
