        —  𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌  𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐄  𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌  𝐓𝐇𝐄  mouths  of  the  two  plain  cups  on  the  dining  table  ,  carrying  an  earthy  scent  of  bergamot  and  blueberries  .  dim  light  shed  from  the  surrounding  lamps  made  the  honey  rand  fed  into  his  own  cup  glow  amber  .  in  the  late  evening  ,  the  shadows  it  cast  fell  long  across  the  kitchen  counters  and  strange  machinery  .

            the  tea  had  been  offered  as  a  neighborly  courtesy  — NOT  to  steady  rand's  nerves  again  .  it  was  a  much  welcome  familiarity  at  any  rate  ,  and  the  ripple  of  the  tea  within  had  little  to  do  with  the  quaver  in  rand's  hands  ,  and  more  to  do  with  the  heat  that  soaked  into  his  palms  a  touch  too  quickly  .  breathing  in  ,  rand  assumed  CALM  .  not  quite  the  void  ,  although  he  could  funnel  his  thoughts  and  passions  into  the  void  in  a  heartbeat  .  the  void  would  invite  the  sickening  light  of  saidin  over  his  shoulder  with  it  .  so  rand  carefully  regulated  his  breathing  to  a  wrap  himself  in  a  normal  calm  ,  aided  by  the  scent  and  heat  of  tea  .         THAT  awareness  had  returned  ,  brighter  and  hotter  than  ever  in  the  void  .  worst  of  all  ,  rand  had  felt  relieved  to  have  felt  it  .  he  had  nearly  reached  out  to  SEIZE  IT  when  the  man  now  sitting  across  from  him  had  appeared  at  his  -  their  -  doorstep  ,  before  rand  had  caught  himself  on  the  brink  of  that  dance,  that  struggle  on  the  razor's  edge  between  sweet  life  and  VILE  DEATH  .  to  do  what  ,  rand  did  not  know  .  he  had  not  known  even  then  .  so  ,  rand  had  done  nothing  in  the  end  .  he  did  nothing  now  .          remembering  that  was  the  reason  for  his  hand's  subtle  tremble  .  NOT  the  man's  appearance  ,  or  rand's  instinctive  jump  to  reach  for  a  sword  he  did  not  have  ,  against  a  man  who  was  ,  in  the  end  ,  TOO  HUMAN  to  be  a  creature  of  the  Dark  .  likely  too  clueless  to  be  a  DARKFRIEND  either  .  he'd  had  time  enough  to  reason  that  much  out  .  still  ,  against  all  reason  ,  there  was  a  CHILL  about  flins  that  rand  could  not  shake  . 

          with  eyes  like  that  .  .  .   rand  thought  ,  taking  a  long  draw  from  his  cup  ,  well  .  it  wouldn't  hurt  him  to  be  less  frightening  .  he  made  that  draw  longer  ,  just  to  stave  off  the  sudden  urge  to  LAUGH  bitterly  .  he  was  a  man  who  could  CHANNEL  .  there  was  little  in  any  world  short  of  the  Dark  One  himself  -  save  the  Dragon  Reborn  -  that  could  be  more  frightening  than  that  .  Light  ,  help  him  ,  there  was  nothing  more  fearful  .

          he  set  the  cup  down  ,  half  -  empty  . 

         ❝  when  i'd  arrived  ,  there  was  a  great  deal  of  fuss  over  an  expedition  of  some  stripe  .  suppose  that  now  there's  the  festival  underway  ,   ❞  rand  was  saying  .  he  had  long  resolved  himself  to  being  helpful  with  his  information  .  what  little  that  he  had  gained  for  himself  was  better  than  setting  flins  off  with  next  to  none  .   ❝  it  sounds  something  like  FOOLDAY  come  early  .   ❞

A HAND HELD LANTERN with an eternal-flamed candle inside. The little fire never seems to go out, but glows brighter in the presence of intense emotions. The guardian gives it to you, commenting on the fact of you fit very well in the isle's current aesthetics. Perfect timing!
