Fëanor swallowed, and that small motion let him feel the cold edge of the blade very keenly. His pulse quickened. More than anything else they had done together, this really let him feel what it was like to place himself completely into another’s hands.

He looked at Mairon, and his gaze softened. Yes, he trusted him.

“Sir…” he breathed.

The sun had just started to rise, its first rays falling in through the haphazardly closed curtains. But it wasn't the sunlight that had woken him up, but rather the noises of someone trying to sneak out of the room.

He turned around in the bed, stretching and pushing himself up on his forearms, looking towards the general direction his student stood in "What are you doing? Come back to bed."

Fëanor glanced back, smiling a little. He’d woken early and found himself feeling restless, but clearly his attempts to be quiet had failed miserably.

“You were sleeping so well,” he said, coming back over to the bed. He rarely saw Mairon resting at all, so it seemed wrong to disturb it.

“I didn’t want to wake you up.”

Apologies had never come easily to Fëanáro. However, after eons of life experience and countless mistakes, he had at least learned when they were necessary, and when they could save him from far bigger problems later down the line.

As much as the maia was subdued under his watch, invoking feelings of anger and resentment in him wouldn't be a good move. Also, he had been somewhat unreasonable.

"I apologise for losing my temper," he said, the words still feeling somewhat foreign on his tongue. He eyed Mairon's expression, trying to read what he might be thinking.

"I should have restrained myself. I will try not to let it happen again."
