Early Steps

So many things have them.
Fix your life in x easy steps,
Increase productivity with this one step,
How about we ignore them,
Stop counting the steps we take.
Every change is a step of life,
Every day some progress made,
Something new gets done,
Even if that’s just the clouds changing.
We’re forever in early steps
Because the late steps are invisible.
We reach them thinking they’re early now,
A new path for us to walk,
Instead of just an extension of our own.
Of course we’re in early steps,
We don’t know how long we’ll be here,
So the steps we take are always early,
Until we look back and count them.
There’s no need to count the individual ones,
Because look at all the distance travelled,
Look how much you’ve changed already.
We’re in the early steps again,
Early in this year at least,
Where 23 is confusing to write,
But we’ll find the late steps arrive quickly.
