me: Privilege is multidimensional. That means it's entirely possible for someone to be privileged along one axis of oppression while being oppressed along another.

me: For example, a Black man is oppressed for being Black, but still privileged for being a man.

me: Such contradictions are not only perfectly natural, they are baked into the very definition of privilege. I cannot stress enough the fact that this is the case.

me: Americans have privilege.

tumblr user: That doesn't make sense what about American of color and LGBT Americans and homeless Americans and disabled Americans and--

I think it's important for other white people to understand that white privilege really is an overarching thing that creates a filter though which you experience any other form of marginalization. That doesn't mean you can't be marginalized or experience loss of privilege, but it does mean that you don't experience that loss of privilege being compounded by your race.

If you're disabled, your disability is perceived as white disability.

If you're queer, your queerness is perceived as white queerness.

I'd you're trans, your transness is perceived as white transness.

You are still less unacceptable to white abled cisheteropatriarchy than a person of color, and this benefits you. White supremacy still favors you. You should choose to live with awareness for that.
