Morphus (“Exile-Planet 313″)
This started out as a little space-adventure in my head. You see the youngest of SkekSo’s triplets is an archeologist and this is one of his biggest finds.
The planet Morphus became an exile-planet of another eighteen urSkeks 850 trines ago. The planet has two long cycles. It spends one year in complete light of it’s blue sun, but then spends another year in the complete shadow of a bigger planet of the system. The people of Morphus are black wraith-like people, who welcomed the urSkeks and being similar in physiology, they accustomed to each other quickly. Some of them believed the urSkeks were a higher evolution of them who embraced light and revered them for it like universally enlightened creatures.
When these urSkeks broke into skeksis and urru, the Wraiths built them a pyramid-like palace un the surface. They still ventured to the palace for guidance, but realized the skeksis and urru gave rather different advices. So they organized two different councils. The urru had the Council of Day, which could be visited during the bright years, and the skeksis had the Court of Night, which could be visited during the dark year. However the Dark Years were not as popular, since during the planet’s dark time, the Wraiths developed a hybernation-process.
Since there is not enough food during the dark year, the Wraiths brew a special sleep-potion, which hybernated them. The entire people went to sleep except some chosen guards, who were selected by trials and then had to keep vigil over the sleeping cities.
The skeksis grew jealous of the urru and tricked some Wraiths to give them the sleeping potion so they can put the urru to sleep forever. Their plan suceeded and they extended their rule over the bright years, which made them of course even more greedy. The Wraiths realized the skeksis’ hunger for conquest, and they managed to free the sleepng urru from the castle. But then, the urru suggested a plan to save the planet from the skeksis. Both them and their skeksis were captured and the skeksis were forced to drink the sleeping nectar together with their urru. When it was done, the Wraiths entombed them in the pyramid in sacrophagues and developed a pilgrimage-ritual where the chosens must deliver fresh sleeping nectar to the pyramid every year to ensure the skeksis and urru stay asleep.
So... the present-day story is that SkekSo wants to bond with his youngest son, but instead of fishing, the kid drags him to an acheologic journey to Morphus, where they discover the pyramid... and let’s say some of the ancient skeksis sleeping in their stone sarcophagues will awake ^^;
