I hope I get to be more like my Mom in the future. She’s a poster child for a Type A personality: she’s competitive, a workaholic, time-efficient, and ambitious. Everything that I am today is due to her hard work and dedication. Honestly, I think I’m a mix of Type A and Type B personalities. I’m laid back, but people perceive me as high-octane. I get easily annoyed yet I also let everything flow. This just proves that you cannot concretely box people into personality types.

Social Loafing VS Productivity

In another class, I feel like my other groupmates do not feel the sense of urgency brought by our video essay to be passed today. I don’t blame them, because we are four members in the group and having a leader the group that is really efficient and excellent, and having too many members in a group make me feel lazy. Social loafing is real! We haven’t started on the actual video yet, and we need to make it decent because the professor handling the class has high standards. Have I mentioned that I’m the video editor? In a way, I feel motivated to do the task because in return, I don’t have to worry about the subject anymore. Is that effective extrinsic motivation? I really want to cry. - Ralph

Dating in Scorpio Season

During the last week of November, I broke off things with a guy I was dating. I’m not going into great detail, but it was because of the arrangement that he desires, which I’m not really a fan of. Of course, I felt sad. However, do I feel sad because of the arrangement, or do I feel sad because I broke it off with him? Did I break up with him because I felt sad, or did I break up with him because of the arrangements, and thus I felt sad? The Common Sense Theory comes to mind. I feel like I feel sadder because of the arrangements he’s proposing than because I broke it off. However, we’re halfway through the month, and I’m doing well without him! Truly is common sense to break things off with him. - Ralph

Curve Of Forgetting VS Stock Knowledge

Cramming is one of the quintessential tools of a UP student in order to survive. For our Kas1 exam, I had to memorize every single detail in history from the American colonization era to the Commonwealth era in a single night. It really did not help my case that the curve of forgetting is greatest just after learning. Thankfully, my stock knowledge saved me from blanking out during the exam. But still, I would’ve been more confident in my answers if I spent more time studying for my LE. Hopefully next time, I allot more time for studying for my exams or quizzes!

UP Diliman’s finals month is so stressful, so I was really in a tough spot mentally. I was in UPTC, specifically Jamba Juice, to study for my finals. As Jamba Juice didn’t have any satisfying meals, I roamed around the mall looking for a decent restaurant. I haven’t eaten at Sbarro before, so I went there. While entering the restaurant, I got nervous and anxious because everyone was accompanied with their friends, family, or significant others, so I was the only one who went inside who was alone. So what happened was that I did not look at the price of the food and so I had to spend more than 400 pesos on food alone. It got so bad that I was shaking while eating. Thus, I did not enjoy the food as a result. If eating out in a restaurant you have never eaten at before, don’t order without a friend!

While I was walking in UPTC, I encountered the Globe store. As a bored college student, I made a bee-line to the phone displays. While using one of the phones, I saw a chathead pop up. Apparently, there was an account that was logged in on the phone! I saw that the person’s profile was filled with pro-Duterte posts, and the groups that she’s in are purely for pro-Duterte propaganda. It unnerved me how groups of the same ideology whether brainwashed or not, perpetuate and later on radicalize these beliefs through group polarization. I saw her posts which were very toxic, which I presume is the result of being inside these polarizing groups. After seeing all of this horrifying stuff, I called the staff to look into the problem. Apparently, one of the staff/salesladies logged into the devices. She might have been using the phone displays to propagate pro-Duterte beliefs! Even display phones in stores are not safe from pro-Duterte propaganda.

I am genderqueer. My first year in UP Diliman made me realize a few things: One being that my gender identity isn’t what I thought it would be. I have always felt my affinity for femininity without losing my touch of masculinity. I never thought I would realize that I did not care about the gender binary. I feel like any pronoun would fit me and I don’t have any problem with it. I get happy when people point out my androgyny. That’s why I felt that the genderqueer label would fit my gender identity more than male or female. At first, I was afraid of what other people would say and nonconformity always unnerved me.  However, I realized that self-acceptance made me feel happier and I was not conforming to societal standards by being an effeminate homosexual person. Now, I am proud of my identity and I hope I would be able to help others accept themselves. - Ralph
