Our insecurities are basically the lies we have believed about ourselves our entire lives. The prison we lock ourselves in is made up of the lies we hold on to and the negative self-talk we indulge in. A number of sources often contribute to the lies we believe about ourselves. Someone said something hurtful and it stuck with you. A parent said they wished they never had you, or gave you up and you have carried that rejection around for years. Your dad never accepted you. You have been told you are not smart enough, good enough, or pretty enough. An ex hurt you, and you believe no one can be trusted. You don’t like the way you look. You believe you’ll never amount to anything. You have a dream you'd like to accomplish, but the fear of failing always wins. If you believe a lie long enough, your words will reflect that lie, and pretty soon so will your actions. Eventually you will begin to believe the lie as truth, but a lie is, by definition, not true. Your perception of yourself, what you believe about yourself, is the reality in which you live. So in order to live in freedom, you must make sure you are living in truth and not believing lies. How do you do this? You must ask yourself to whom are you listening? Whose voice are you hearing? John 10:27-29; Are you entertaining the lies of the enemy, or do you hear the voice of your Shepherd? Check our inner thoughts and make sure they align with God’s Word. A lie will always steal your true identity.
