i just finished reading
thinking about thg again this morning and particularly how sotr seems to imply the rebellion might have tried to sabotage the hunger games multiple times before katniss came along and thinking about how the first turning point was not exploding the arena or katniss being a badass with her bow and arrow or even defying the capitol with her berry trick but her love and compassion for rue, this little girl whom she 'owed' nothing who should have been her enemy, this little girl who deserved so much better
trying so hard to be normal about the raven cycle right now
something i really love about trc so far is how important friendship seems to it like sure there's hints of romance here and there and i'm sure as i continue my read that will be built upon but the heart of this story seems to be fundamentally platonic love
i think i've figured out the secret formula to make me actually enjoy a story featuring some kind of romance and it's the story (the writer) has to be aware of gender roles, question, examine and if possible actively defy them
me trying to explain trc to my aunt "it seems like basic heterosexual teen romance at first glance but it's actually about finding this strange, fucked up magical forest and-"
lowkey the volcano in sotr makes such a good metaphor too...
what intrigues me about the raven cycle is that the story gives so little detail and breezes (skips even!) over things other books would linger on and as a result reading it feels like free fall
