First Date
Ford Pines x Reader fluff
It's been a while since Ford's been on a date, come to think of it had he ever actually been on a date. He tries to think back at his college days, but he can't seem to remember. I guess that's what a few decades in an alternate universe does to the memory, he thinks. Yet all his odd experiences seemed tame and even less frightening than where he was right now.
You sit across from him at the table and sip coffee waiting for your pie. He notices that you've definitely caught him drifting into his own mind further.
"Sorry, I'm just surprised you agreed to go on a date with me. I can't remember the last time I asked someone out", he nervously chuckles.
You smile at him to assure him it's fine. In fact, his awkward demeanor was charming even cute. Maybe that's why you accepted or maybe it's because he's handsome. Especially when he started talking about something he was so obviously interested in, the way his entire face lights and how his inflection changed barely able to contain himself. In short, it was adorable which sounds weird to describe while describing a grown man over twice your age. That didn't make it less true.
Ford's begun talking about some side projects he's been working on and he's cut off by the waitress setting down a large slice of pie between the two of you with two forks. With a smile, he picks up a fork and thanks Susan, the server. You both sit indulging your sweet tooth and continue speaking.
It's not too long before you're finished with your dessert but you don't leave the diner. You've both loosened up and are lost in conversation. Hours go by then you realize all the booths are empty but the one you occupy.
Ford looks around and leaves cash on the table to pay.
"We should probably get going. May I walk you home?", he asks scratching the back of his neck.
"Sure, that'd be great", you say in reply.
Honestly, he's stunned everything is going this well. When he told Stan about this date, he didn't give him very much confidence or helpful advice. Now he's glad he stuck to the generic 'be yourself' mantra people seem to say a lot.
The path to your house is wooden and damp from rain earlier that day, which only added to the evening chill. As you walk alongside Ford he sees you shivering, he pulls you close wrapping you in his coat. The fabric from his clothes and heat from the closeness of his body warms you. He looks at you with a smile.
"Is that better, you looked cold", he mumbles. He tried to back up what he'd consider a bold action, taking at least one piece of his brother's advice. However, his voice faltered as it wasn't something he would've actually done by himself.
As you reach your doorstep he unravels you from his jacket and starts saying his goodbyes. He even attempts to ask you out on a second date. Catching a rare species of fireflies that only inhabit The Falls, for a study he's doing. You agreed without hesitation and give him a kiss on the cheek, to say goodbye.
He tries to refrain from letting his face flush but fails. You go inside and peek out the window watching him walk down the path, one of his hands gently rubs where you'd placed the kiss. The awe of just how great things went set in and rushed by to the Mystery Shack to tell Stan about everything. Turns out there's more than one ladies man in the family.
