Neji looked at Ino's hand outstretched in his direction. It was an invitation but he couldn't tell what her intention was. They were still in the cafe and night fell quicker still. Ino had invited Neji to come along with her, to look up at the stars. He had never taken the time to really admire them, but Ino had told him that she enjoyed doing this. Maybe Neji might find his own pleasure in the glimmer of the night sky. Maybe he would find pleasure in the company of someone who cared about him. He was beginning to feel as though Ino actually cared about him as Neji, not just as the top student and the school president.
Neji reached towards her hand and then pulled back. Was he ready? He couldn't tell. How do you know if you're ready for something like this? Neji pondered a thousand possibilities in the space of a second. He wouldn't be able to have a chance like this again, what were the odds? It had taken him nearly eighteen years to come up with just this opportunity, he couldn't waste it. So, in what felt like minutes but were actually seconds, Neji took Ino's hand in his.
"Where exactly are we going?" He asked nervously. Neji wasn't afraid of the place, he was anxious of the company. What if he made another foolish mistake and ended up destroying everything he'd worked so hard for? That wasn't an option. Neji had been through too much to back away now. He looked up at the sky wondering just what held so much interest for Ino. It was captivating of course. But, as it were, the night was still starless as of yet.
