Lytro’s Latest VR Light-field Camera is Huge, and Hugely Improved
In the last few years, Lytro has made a major pivot away from consumer-facing digital camera products now to high-end production cameras and tools, with a major part of the company’s focus on the ‘Immerge’ light-field camera for VR. In February, Lytro announced it had raised another $60 million to continue developing the tech.

true story. I've got an early invite that expires tomorrow so I can get one of the first batch in 2012, but can I justify £250 at this moment in time?

A very convincing look at the new Lytro - one of world's first light-field cameras. What this means -
The Lytro camera is a light-field, or plenoptic, camera. An array of micro-lenses sits over the camera’s sensor, capturing all the light in the scene being photographed (11 million rays of light, to be precise). The Lytro then saves your image in a proprietary file format to deliver a “living picture” that you can manipulate on your computer, much like a raw file. By manipulating key attributes, you can effectively change the focus of the image. That’s right: After the image has been taken. (source)

This is an exciting new camera start-up. Lytro use light-field technology to re-focus on pictures after you have taken them. The great part about Lytro's rise is that the company's being funded mostly but tech venture capitalists, who usually stay away from hardware technology. This technology has great potential to grow and embed itself in our future camera phones.
Big Brother is definitely watching.
