“How long will you be able to stay this time?” Lightning asked to change the subject.

“I don’t know,” she glanced up at Landon whose smile seemed frozen in place, not reaching his eyes.

“Let’s not worry about that now,” he said, forcing false cheer into his voice. “Let’s just enjoy the time we have.”

“Can we go for a bike ride?” Starlight asked.

“Or a picnic?” Lightning added.

“Yeah can we?” Starlight asked looking up at her parents.

“I don’t see why not,” he winked at her, making her giggle. “Go get your things and I’ll get the food.”

Watching them go Stormie sighed sadly “maybe I shouldn’t have come.”

“Don’t be ridiculous” he drew her to him, holding her tight. “We’d rather have these visits then never see you at all.”

“I want my kisses and hugs too,” he grinned, pulling her close as his mouth sought hers hungry for her taste and touch. Groaning in protest when she pulled away and the twins chorused in the background “eew gross.”

“Why is it okay for me to kiss and hug you?” Stormie demanded them “and it’s not okay for me to kiss your dad?”

“I don’t know,” Starlight looked over to her brother hoping he had an answer.

“That’s not a reason,” Stormie said watching them.

“Mom,” Landon leaned on the bookshelf behind watching the twins greet their mother as she hugged one after the other. She looked up, meeting his eyes with tears in her own.

“I’ve missed you so so much” she kissed and hugged them all over again until everyone was giggling and begging her to stop.

Once they settled down she approached Landon. “Well?” she stepped, watching him with one eyebrow raised, her lips poised to say something.

“Well?” he stepped forward “I’ve missed you too.”

“Have you?” she slipped her arms around him.

“Yes,” he pouted.

“What do you want me to do about it?” she asked, keeping her face carefully void of all emotion.

Lightning poked his twin. “I’d hate to be on that team.”

Looking across the room she nodded “they look miserable.”

Jaime glared at them “what’s so funny?”

“Them,” Lighting pointed at the other group.

Turning she watched the other group “just as I suspected,” she grunted.

Willow followed their gaze. “He’s really not that bad. He’s just trying to impress you.”

“Oh?” Jaime grinned at her “do you really think so?”

“Yeah” she frowned wondering why the girl even needed to ask. “Pity you switched places with your sister.”

“Well she wanted to impress someone too” she giggled at the look Willow gave her. “Want a hint?”

“We know,” the twins giggled.

“Do we have to,” they whined, “she never lets us do anything fun.”

“Yes you have to” he chided them “hurry up we don’t have all night.”

Thirty minutes later Basil led them to the spot where he’d found the girls. Stopping he made the signal and a short while later he was answered by a low clear warble like a bird. Crawling into the bushes Basil announced “I’ve brought help.”

The girls gasped huddling together upon seeing how many had come back with Basil. Putting a hand on their shoulders Willow assured them “it’s alright. The guy with the pink hair is our brother and the other one is a doctor. You’ll get to know the rest of them later.”

The girls stared at them before one of the girls timidly offered a hand to Landon “I’m Jamie and this is my sister Iris.”

“No telling,” Jaime warned.

“What will you give us to keep quiet?” Lightning asked.

“I won’t kill you” Jaime stared at them until their smiles slipped into uncertain frowns.

“Don’t hurt my brother,” Starlight warned her voice, quivering a little.

“She’s just messing with you” Willow assured them “besides I’ll protect you.”

The twins eyed Jaime a moment as if gauging whether to trust Willow’s assertion that she could protect them against her. “Yeah ok,” they nodded “she wouldn’t stand a chance against our Aunt.”

Jaime raised an eyebrow “are you related to everyone here?” she asked, turning to Willow.

“Just about,” she sighed “it makes me wonder if I’ll be able to find someone to fall in love with.”
