Kerala 16-24 December 2013
Kerala was just so beautiful and I'll never forget it. Some of the highlights:
The orphanage. I will never forget the girls there, and they'll always be in my heart.
We went to the beach near my grand aunt's house. It was a vast expanse of sea and sky, with a clear pencil line of a horizon as there were no ships marring it. We sat on a large driftwood which was as smooth as polished stone, and looked at the gold waters. The sun was more than halfway through the sky and it hurt quite a bit to look at the sea because it was sparkling so much.
My lovely cousin Shahana chatted with me till midnight and she suddenly extended her hand and said, "Many happy returns of the day," and I was puzzled until she informed me that it was my birthday. She'd made me a beautiful chocolate cake, covered in white icing and chocolate sprinkles.
On my birthday, after visiting countless of warm and genuine relatives, we went to the area by the river. It was a large space with little pools of water here and there, interspersed with long brilliant white flowers, and it slowly and gradually turns into a river from afar. We had to take off our worn shoes and walk barefooted in the sand to prevent it from entering our shoes. The sand was quite deep, like miniature hills.
We went to the waterfalls and it was the most amazing time of my life. I was astounded at the rush of the falls, which could be heard from a mile away. We went both to the top of the waterfalls, whereby we played at the streams near the edge of the strong currents (there was a long rope marking it) and it was so fun. My cousin Sherbina and I climbed over the rocks and tested the clear waters with a stick and went right to the rope (which was quite far away from the shore) and we sat on a rock and threw our legs out of the rope, into the current. The water was so cold and refreshing. I could not get enough of it. Later, Sherbi and I went near the edge of the waterfall, sat on a rock and immersed our feet in the water again. We went to the foot of the waterfalls after that and my cousin and I clambered over the large rocks so that we could go near the end of the waterfall. There was so much wind and spray and I could never have been happier.
We went up the mountains the next day and there was a food carnival there. A little black kitten followed us for quite a bit before getting sidetracked.
We found the most adorable ginger kitten on the last day, and it had followed us back home and it broke our hearts to leave it.
