yes! everything had to build. the fact eddie had to leave. the fact buck's biggest secret is one he can't share with eddie. the fact eddie wouldn't let himself focus on why he felt like he had to choose between his kid and his best friend and why that hurt him so much. even the bobby grief fight was about their lack of communication through most of s7 and s8, but bobby was the tipping point.

after 7x05, everything changed. buck had to find out about kim from kim. we never see buck and eddie truly talk about chris leaving until texas comes up. then texas turns into a fight. then they fight again in 8x17. they both want things from each other, but they won't say what.

so if you have all of this and you haven't really talked about it for 2 years, the tension just builds. you can fake it around everyone else or at work, but you can't fake it in the quiet, intimate moments you are alone. eventually everything will reach a point and something is going to break. and if it happens to break during a 29 hour road trip where you can't hide or escape? well ☺️
