Yeah I’m not sure how to properly express how disgusting this is, and while of course I can believe that the NHL put us in this position, I simultaneously can’t believe that this is like, a real thing I am watching happen and am completely powerless to stop, and most horrifying is that it is absolutely being used to validate the feeling that the rape of women by hockey players, and men generally, is justified because they have more potential, because they are more valuable to us as a society, who cares what Carter hart did or didnt do, he’s going to win the Stanley cup and that’s alll that matters, that proves that he’s a good guy, cause he’s successful, cause he makes the nhl money, EM was never going to be as profitable and therefore her treatment is justifiable

I think it is funny when you end up running into someone who seems to hate AI more for being "slop" and the energy use and end up just literally stating "You should have just taken art from a real artist without permission for your DnD campaign instead of generating that orc".

Okay this is true but also on the side of the energy usage, I think that side is not *insignificant* but weirdly overstated.

Like I've unironically seen the take "If you want to look at art so bad you probably have a local museum a short drive away you can go to instead of destroying the environment with the plagiarism machine" when like. Assuming someone has a museum e.g. 3 miles away, by driving there they are producing pollution equivalent to having their computer generate AI images nonstop for 24 hours straight.
