I don’t know much about GOT and HOD other than that they seem to commit hard to their tragedy and their doom — which I have to respect in some ways — but any time I see the explicit narrative choices leading to the women’s narrative tragedy and doom I hope anyway they’ll survive in spite of what the tales tell—like Elphaba in Wicked, surviving under cover of her narrative doom, free to be in obscurity. I know that’s what makes tragedies so haunting and human, the hope right until the very end, that it’ll turn out different but I’m not built for tragedies and doom! I’m soft and I want girls who were forced to become women too soon and too harshly to escape the forces that would damn them, is that too much to ask
#but I know that’s the point#I find the show’s prequel concept of this war that we know about that was spoken of and shaped history#held this love story that played out because of power grabs and abuse and misunderstanding#and there were chances to stop it but nothing really could’ve stopped it#and taking names that are mentioned off handed in a history lesson and giving us the depth and breadth of their life and love#rhaenyra and alicent truly echoing through time but lost to time#like ow?#I can’t watch the show but it’s such a concept#house of the dragon#rhaenyra targaryen#alicent hightower#rhaenicent#game of thrones
