As much as Willow hated to admit it, the less people that came into the library on a daily basis, the better. It wasn’t often that people came in looking for books, let alone wanting to check them out. In that, it made things a little easier on all of them. They could research things for Buffy in private, and the rest of their fellow students didn’t have to see such titles as Demons in Anglo-Saxon Culture on the shelves. It was a win for everyone.
That made it all the more of a surprise to actually see someone already in the library that wasn’t a Giles. Coming to a complete stop, she couldn’t hide the shock that she was sure was all too present on her expression. “...um...hi?” She said, nervously holding the small stack of books and notes to her chest.
❛ are you home? ❜

Fumbling with his donut purchase from the Espresso Pump and car key, Giles finally fished his newly acquired and ringing mobile phone. He greeted Tara with a smile in his voice, but the tone of her first words set him straight.
“I will be home in ten minutes. Is everything alright?”

“...I could buy a bunch of coloring books, and get crayons!” Willow answered, smiling brightly at the suggestion. “...although I think they’d want us to wear overalls all the time again.”

This had to be a trick. Some kind of illusion being played on her, in order to slow her down. She’d been so close to Jonathan and Andrew. Close enough that she could have ended all of this quickly, instead of being bowed down by having to hunt for them. That had to be why all of this was happening. Looking back at the image of Tara, the thing causing her chest to physically ache, she was at a loss for words.
It had to be a trick. There was no other explanation.
“What are you?” She asked, her voice noticeably void of the anger that had taken hold of it for the past hours.

The few seconds of silence lasted far longer in her head than they did in reality. Staring back at Tara, the small ring box in her shaking hand still held outwards, Willow’s mind immediately went into overdrive. She’d gone too quick, went too far with buying a ring and actually asking the question. The big, everlasting question. The answer was going to be a ‘no’, she could just hear the word echoing inside her ears. Mocking her with its single, broken sound.
And then...the word’s opposite rang out instead.
“...you will?” She asked, the roots of a smile slowly springing to the edges of her lips.
