` ☆ @likedetective for ten : ‘ people lie all the time. ’
there’s a moment happening here, one that holds an awful lot of levity for a woman so small in stature. trust issues upon trust issues upon trust issues — they’re all stacking like dominos, and the doctor is again left doing an awkward toe-heel dance in the quick-shift of emotion so painfully human it always catches him off guard. they feel so intensely, so neon like stars visible lightyears away. those short lives do burn brightly, and someone’s lit nancy’s fuse.
the doctor pauses opening the door, frustrated by its wooden stature, and swivels on his converse to look at her.
‘ weeeell, that’s certainly true from a point of view. people do lie an awful lot, don’t they? ’ the doctor passes her his screwdriver as he begins digging around in his pockets. where is it... where... he knows it’s here... ‘ — hah! gotcha. ’
when in doubt: lockpicks, for use with wooden locking latches. a clever solution for a very irritating problem. just a few short moments later and the door swings open, the timelord making a ta-da gesture as he nods his head towards the entryway.
‘ good thing you and i are no ordinary people, huh? no, you, nancy drew, are something so much more special, and i promise you... there’ll be no lies from me. ’
` ☆ @likedetective for steve : action prompts (🤚).
obviously the end times are here, at least that’s the look he gets as he passes the receptionist. dark times indeed, finding steve’s extended presence in a library. admittedly, he’s far from alone, with a bunch of split-grinned kids trailing two feet after, and a red-headed library native on a mission leading the pack with vigour. but still — a library. he shrugs his shoulders at the gawking woman behind the counter, makes an aborted dunno face, and carries on as if this isn’t the first time he’s been in here.
— though the mission is met with resistance when they reach the stacks, the party already running off to find the information they need for their latest misadventure into upside-down-land. steve is overwhelmed. that is a lot of books.
‘ uhhh... maybe i’ll just wait outside? ’
steve looks towards nancy, hand rubbing the back of his neck bashfully. she has to know he’ll be hopeless at this research thing. king steve isn’t known for his intellect, after all, unless it comes to his textbook perfect understanding of kissing. nancy’s having none of it, though. no, instead she rolls her eyes moves behind him, hands pressed firmly to his back as she pushes him towards those crowded bookshelves.
‘ alright, alright! i’ll try! ’
resistance is futile in the end. nancy drew always gets her way.
@likedetective said ❛ you really don’t want to test me right now. ❜
“Oh, boo hoo, Drew.” She rolls her eyes hard enough that it aches a little, but she doesn’t miss a step, her chunky heeled boots thunking confidently across the pavement. She’s setting the pace here, and if Nancy wants to talk to her, she’d better keep up; Deirdre Shannon has more important things to do than focus on a pity party. “Are things not going your way? Is the baby gonna cry about it? Grow up.”
She tosses a look over her shoulder, and smugness etched into her expression. There’s something... delicious about this whole situation. The keeping of certain privileged information. The riling up of a certain ginger detective in order to throw her off her game; to draw it all out longer.
“Honestly, it’s about time you get a taste of how the real world works for everyone else.”
She takes a sudden, sharp turn, her gaze having landed on a green scarf hanging from a street vendor’s stall. Delicately, she lifts it from it’s wooden post to inspect the quality, but she keeps an eye on her self-declared rival as well.
And she groans when she realizes that this particular shade of silken green would look better on Nancy than herself. But she takes out a wad of cash to buy it anyway, just to keep it out of Nancy’s grasp.
“Good things don’t just fall into everyone else’s lap like they do yours. Or, well. Like they used to land in yours.”
Purchase made, Deirdre gives Nancy a little wink as she loops the scarf around her neck, and it’s the only warning that she’s about to set off again.
“Anyway-- Seems to me like you should have made your move when you had the chance.”
@likedetective said "it's too dark, i can't see anything."
“Whaaaat? My glowing personality isn’t enough for you?” Joe cries, laying on the hurt to a comical degree and letting his faux-wounded voice echo down the stone corridor. If she can’t see it in the dark, he’ll make sure she hears it.
The dark also gives him a bit of cover to fish silently around in his pockets for the extra bright glowsticks the Network had supplied him with. Finding one with a lanyard attached to it, he smirks to himself as he drapes it around his neck and drops it under the neckline of his shirt.
“You’re breaking my heart here, Nancy.” He tells her as he gives the plastic tube a quick, audible snap and it begins to glow, lighting up their surroundings. “So cruel. Next thing you’ll tell me is that I’m not funny!”
In the literal limelight, Joe laughs, pulling the glowstick out from under the tee to to unshade it, and hands Nancy the other one, just in case. The one that would have been Frank’s, if they hadn’t split up earlier. All awkwardlike.
“Better?”
