Gotta ask tho what happened to Shiro and Matt's last bard?
Oooh I was hoping to share this idea at some point.
The idea spawned from my brother making a joke in passing about the main villain for the campaign being Barkon instead of Zarkon (not to be confused with Varkon). So the following all stemmed from my brother and I building off that joke and bouncing ideas off each other.
Their Bard’s name was Brad, and later would be known as Brad of Boyd. He was a bard that was really good at his job, and was of great use to the party. But he had one weakness. His love of dogs.
He was the kind of guy who, no matter what they were doing, would stop to pet every dog they passed on the street. He even attempted to adopt strays or even dire hounds by using his bardic magic. If he’d just stuck to one and had been satisfied, it wouldn’t have been a problem; a single animal companion would actually be helpful. But he would literally do this with every stray. It got to the point where Matt had to scare off most of the dogs they came across before Brad could get to it.
The party of adventurers were on a quest to find a magical mirror, that was said to grant whoever wielded it their greatest wishes. Whatever the holder’s heart desired, the mirror would give it’s image shape, manifesting it into physical form. But for an item to have such great power, it would no doubt be overwhelming in magical energy for the holder.
Shiro, as the DM for this adventure, created this item for this homebrew campaign, intending it to be a challenge and character building experience for the group. For them to triumph over temptation and become better people in the process.
However, the time eventually came, the adventuring party finding the magical mirror and taking it after an arduous battle with a boss. And it just so happened to fall into the hands of Brad.
And within seconds, out of the mirror poured a figurative sea of excessively fluffy Samoyed dogs.
On and on they poured from the mirror, packing every corner until there was no room to move or breathe. Matt and the rest of the party had luckily made it to a higher area to escape, but Brad was stuck in the center of this doggy ocean. The party could only look on in horror as Brad was covered in cloud and fluff, until only one hand was left reaching out to the group. And he uttered his final words…
“I submit to this willingly!!”
And that is the tale of Brad of Boyd. Perishing in what was most assuredly his ideal manner. In a sea of good boys. And people still sing songs of his end.
Brad of Boyd, among the good-est of boys.
