Lilac Buds—Mrs. S (1906) - Edward Steichen
Happy first day of spring. Nature isn't stressed about toilet paper, masks, and hand sanitizer. Nature is still there, growing, changing, living.
‘Lilac Buds: Mrs S’ by Edward Steichen ( 1879–1973 ).
Photogravure (printed 1906). United States.

Sketch-a-Day Prompt 21: "Budding"
I definitely struggled with the shading on this and getting the lilac buds to look sufficiently rounded. In the end, I am relatively pleased with how it all turned out, though it doesn't totally match the reference
(other than the black border, which I don't like at all. I was trying to make it clearer on the scanned version where the edges of the paper are, but it looks pretty janky lol)
