The potion

As she woke up in the morning, Athena immediately felt odd. She looked down. Shit, she's back in her old body again. Time to hit up that potion shop in the outskirt of the city yet again. As soon as she step in the shop, a lady sitting there greated her.

Diana: Hello Athena, you're back again already? Athena: Yes, I know, already. No need to rub it in.

Athena sat down at the bar where Lilah was selling her potions. She was so confused, she told her the genderbending potion could last a month, and her last dose did last a month. This one however barely lasted 24 days.

Lilah: I mean, it depends on a lot of factors, like the dose and how your body react to it. On average it last a month, but it can last a lot longer or a lot shorter. Magic potions are like human meds, everyone react differently to them. You might even be building a resistance to this specific potion. Athena: Well I need it, I cannot come out to my parents right now but I also cannot continue living as a man. This is all temporary. Lilah: And when are you planning on telling them? You know I can make you a potion that is even more effective than this one, it will turn you into a woman permanently. Athena: I know that, you told me the two previous times I came here. But look, Lilah, just give another six months ok. Eventually I'll tell my family and then I'll buy the permanent potion. Lilah: I'm still not really comfortable selling it to you considering that you're not a spellcastress, your body is not made to transform to that degree that often. Hell, even non-shapeshifting spellcasters shoudln't abuse any transforming potion. It can lead to cancer in the long run. Athena: You also told me that, and honestly I grew up with two parents who smoked in the house, I'm willing to take that risk. Also, it's only six months and uh...if you're that uncomfortable, why are you even selling that potion in the first place? Lilah: Cause normally people buying it are genderfluid people who wanna use it ever once in a while or people who wanna experiment. I even have some people who buy it in early October for halloween costume purpose. Athena: Anyway, I have the money, and rent is getting more and more expensive. Don't you want the money Lilah?

Sick of arguing with her, Lilah ended up selling the potion. Next dose she'll have to sign a waiver about the cancer risk though, and when it will have been a year since her first one, she'll refuse to sell her another potion as this is when she'll be entering the danger zone. That's in 10 months though, and Athena swears she'll tell her family within the next six, so she better keep her word. In the end, Lilah can't say she didn't warn her.

Lilah: Anyway, I'll be back, I keep on receiving notification since you arrived.

This is her business, she can leave the counter if she so wishes at any point, and Athena was the only client currently in the store anyway. So she walked away a bit, not by much, but she did, and looked at her phone. It was Kino...

Lilah: OH SON OF A BITCH! Diana: What's wrong my lil' shug? Lilah: I got dumped through a fucking text message!

Kino...Kino never changes...

It’s been 1 year, 3 months, 5 days, 7 hours, 9 minutes and 11 seconds

Times had passed since Dawud snapped at Daniele at the San Myshuno Art Museum and he moved back to Strangerville. Of course, people change a lot over the course of more than a year, though not everyone changes has much.

During that year, Dawud spent most of it alone in Audrey’s house, like he did back in 2018. He’d stay there all day, in his bedroom, which also doubled as Audrey’s office. At night, they’d watch movies together, which was nice. However, at this point, it was starting to feel like no matter how hard he tried, he always ended up in the same pit of misery. And this time, he also had to live with the guilt of insulting his friends!

Rudi finally started to work on that music career they originally came to San Myshuno for. Currently, they are mostly playing at an old kinda shady punk bar late at night, and is looking for other people to form a band with. In the day time however, they work as a waiter at a restaurant. Mostly cause Charlie threatened to kick them out too if they didn’t get a job cause that whole living off music thing was...not going anywhere yet.

Speaking of Charlie, the 15th anniversary of her biting came. At this point, there’s nothing she can do. She knew she’ll always be a vampire, there is no cure for her strain of vampirism, but accepting it is easier said than done. But if she’s going to be one forever, might as well gain something out of it. So, she underwent some mysterious vampire ritual in order to fully gain entrance into vampire society, turning her eyes the distinctive red shade vampires have.

Meanwhile, Akva decided to finally do something with her life. It started with trying to get a girlfriend, but then she went back to school and started college, in order to study so she could become a physical therapist. Eventually, school took over and she had to put dating on the side for the time being. She hasn’t really seen the baby she put for adoption though. While she technically can ask to see her, she can’t really bring herself to do it.

Sadly, Kino inability to commit to a relationship caught on to them. As much as they tried to stay with Toni, living so far away from each other made keeping the love alive even harder. Then, they got a new girlfriend, a spellcaster named Lilah Silvercloud and...after a few months, once again, they fell out of love. However, they are trying really hard to make this work cause, well...Lilah knows Kino is an alien. Even worse, they have a baby on the way, which is going to create a massive shitshow for so many reasons.

Finally, Daniele had a perfectly average year once he got over Dawud. He did love him, but he’s a spellcaster and he’s always been taught humans and spellcasters cannot be together. Then, one morning, he woke up in pain so severe he had to get hospitalized. It was his condition once again, it had worsened, his magic is leaving his body faster than expected. So great, as if he didn’t felt guilty enough for rejecting a guy for being a human, he is slowly turning into one too!

Well...Where could this all go from here?

Kino had a baby

On the evening of April 13th, Kino finally gave birth after being pregnant a whole ass year. Thankfully, they did find a solution on that whole “where would an alien give birth”, which is, they did in Lilah’s apartment, assisted by a midwife. This is fine, Lilah threw an amnesia spell at them. Is such a spell unethical? I mean...yeah, it is but...Yeah...

Anyway, a few days later, as they were starting to feel better, Kino went back to the apartment with their new baby. Which, thank god their girlfriend is a shapeshifter, that excuse was gonna do a lot of heavy lifting considering the child was blue, had black schlera, and had pointy ears...Because of fucking course they had inherited none of Lilah’s earthling traits. And the technology to build a human form is on Kino’s home planet, so that is not really an option either. Though the alien will never forget the poor midwife face when the baby came out looking like they were deprived of oxygen, and unable to tell if they were a boy or a girl. Cause you know, it’s one thing to have an intersex child, it’s another one to have a stillborn.

Charlie: Awww, they’re so cute. So, what’s the name? I know just yesterday you still hadn’t made a decision. Kino: Well, first of all, Lilah and I have decided to raise the baby like a human boy for simplicity sake, but who knows maybe one day he’ll want to be something else, so you can just say he. Second, I have manage to convince her to give him a Sixamese name. I’m a bit worried Earthlings will think it is weird, but he, there’s thousands of culture on both Earth and Sixam who all use wildly different name. Also, the meaning is so lovely, it means beloved friend in my first language. Charlie: Ok, so what is it then? Kino: Joseph.

Charlie started to laugh, assuming this long introduction was a set-up to that very normal reveal, but no, Kino was dead serious. Joseph means beloved friend in their first language, and is even mildly common in their native country back in Sixam. Now how they managed to live several years on Earth and never come across anyone named Joseph, especially in a part of the world where it is a common name, that’s another story.

Dawud: Hey, can we see the baby? Kino: Of course, here he is, my son, Joseph Gurafee-Silvercloud. Daniele: But why does he have to sleep next to my bed? I’ll be the one constantly woken up at night when it’s you who couldn’t be arsed to wear a condom. Dawud: Dan, we are five people in a tiny bedroom, everyone will be woken up if he starts crying in the middle of the night.

And then, when everyone was done with looking at little Joseph, Akva came back from work. Just like everyone else, she went to see the baby...Yup, that is a newborn all right. All wrinly and small and you’re not too sure if he’s really that cute or not. A baby. That is when it hit her...

Akva: I’m going for a walk. Charlie: It’s like 11 pm? Akva: Mind your business.

Outside the apartment, a weird sort of sadness came over Akva, one she did not want to admit she was feeling. It’s been almost two years, and in those two years she had been acting as if nothing was, but now, well...Life had changed, her situation was different. The semester was ending in two weeks, that was the perfect time for her to go on a little vacation in California.

After avoiding it for so long, it was time, she had to visit Paisley.

The story of Kino and Lilah

Well, today’s the day, Dawud is moving back into the apartment. As he arrived in his older home, he was greeted by someone, Kino and uh...surprise. Like, he knew Kino had a new girlfriend and they were expecting a child, but considering Kino can both impregnate and get pregnant, he thought his alien friend was the “father”, not the “mother”...

Dawud: I’ve skipped a chapter. Kino: No you haven’t, this is my first time showing up this season. The audience is equally as confused. Dawud: ...What... Kino: But anyway, I am currently dating this spellcaster, her name is Lilah and we’re having a baby. Charlie is really excited, you know how much she loves baby and there’s finally going to be one around the house. Though it’s probably going to be really hard finance wise. Praise llamas you’re back here. Dawud: Y-Yeah, I know that, I mean more like...Weren’t you so in love with Toni you cried you weren’t enough of a woman for her? Kino: Ok, let’s go back inside cause being in my real body in the hallway isn’t the best of idea, and I’ll tell you everything you need to know.

It all started only a few weeks after Dawud left the apartment and moved back to Strangerville. Kino had always been on the more non-commital side when it comes to love. It’s hard to say if it’s nature or nurture, on their native culture on Sixam, serial monogamy is the norm, but it’s not universal and their own parents have been together for decades. Like Charlie once said, back in 2018, they dated three girls in the space of a few months. So it’s not that surprising they ended up falling out of love with Toni, especially considering they were living in New Jersey, while Toni is living in an island in the Pacific. Long distance is hard enough to begin with, so under these circumstances, of course their relationship wasn’t going to survive.

And so, Kino dumped Toni, quite unceremoniously, through a text...yeah...Quite anticlimatic considering they used to consider her their soulmate and “the one”.

The following January, for Rudi’s 23rd birthday, the roommates went partying at the exact same karaoke bar they went for Dawud’s 23rd birthday. There, Kino came across a beautiful woman, who just so happen to fit their preference of blue hair and dark skin, and she had such a cute face on top of that.

Kino: I love your hair, what brand of dye do you use? Lilah: Uh, well, I’m a spellcaster, so that’s just my natural color. Kino: Really? I thought...Well cool!

Ever since they arrived on Earth, Kino had realized regular non-occult people cannot naturally have blue hair, which meant explaining their chosen hair color in human form hard to do. Also, they could now see why a lot of people assumed they were a spellcaster or a mermaid. Which you know...considering Akva is a natural greenhead, was about time they realized that, but better late than never.

After a few months of friendship, Kino and Lilah decided to give dating a shot. This is when the alien found out their new girlfriend was actually a specialized spellcaster, someone who was born with an unusual magic ability. In her case, it was shapeshifting. So one night, while they were making out and Kino accidentally turned back into their alien form, they could easily have claim to also be a shapeshifter. Except in the heat of the moment, they panicked and just told the truth. Which in hindsight is indeed a very stupid decision, even Toni never got to know Kino’s real species, but you know, rational decisions are rarely made under stress. Anyway, Kino had always claimed to be a regular human, they know nothing about the spellcasting world except that Daniele’s family is a big deal there, so they couldn’t really lie about belonging to it without being caught in record time...

Another passage of time later, Kino ended up finding out they’re pregnant. Which you know, kinda terrifying for the both of them. Sure, at the time they were both 26, by the time the baby will be born they’ll be both 27, this is a normal age to start a family, but other than that they weren’t really ready to become parents...Eh, they’ll find a way to make this work.  

Dawud: Ok, cool, but how did she even knock you up? Is she trans or something? Kino: No, I told you, she’s a shapeshifter. And you know, why use a strap-on when you can just grow your own. Sure, the balls weren’t necessaries but I think they’re fun to play with so... Dawud: Ew! I didn’t need to know that! Kino: ...How do you think babies are made Dav? Dawud: Anyway um uh...How far along are you? Kino: Ten months, almost eleven. Dawud: Uh?? You...You’re not supposed... Kino: Sixamian pregnancy last an entire year instead of only nine months. And trust me, I am starting to be REALLY jealous of human, I’m so done with this thing I want my little hybrid already.

Yeah, Kino felt quite important about that, they’re (or at least very probably are) carrying the world first Earthling/Sixamian hybrid! That’s kind of a big deal, and they’re forced to keep it a secret...But hey, at least the fact Lilah is a spellcaster, and spellcaster tend to have unusual traits, and being a shapeshifter on top of that, means that if the baby comes out blue or something, it will be pretty easy to explain.

Now, hopefully, Kino won’t fall out of love this time. In their native culture it might be the norm to stop dating someone once you have a child, but on Earth uh...Well, once again it is very cultural, but it is much more frowned upon usually.

It has been a year and a half since Dawud moved back to Strangerville after cutting out his old roommates from his life. However, as if his life is stuck in a time loop, on the second anniversary of him seeing a UFO he...saw another UFO. Yeah. Once again forced to move to San Myshuno by the exact same government worker who sent him there the first time, it seems like it is his fate to live in this city after seeing weird lights in the sky.

However, while the circumstances of him coming back to the apartment might be...literally the same as the first time around, a lot has changed for his old friends in the big city, a lot. From Kino getting a new girlfriend to Charlie finally accepting she’s a vampire and so much more, seems like Dawud missed many things during his year isolating in a sleepy desert town. And that’s without considering all the new adventures and dramas he’s going to live now that he’s back in San Myshuno. But most importantly, will he and Daniele finally end up together? Let’s see!
