Thinking about how we'd have a really cool trio is Malachi hadn't died. Lilly, Will, and Malachi would have such a great dynamic.

Also why doesn't Lilly get more appreciation. I know she's an annoying little shit sometimes but she's MY annoying little shit.

Hello, I have returned from my 2-day nap and returned with a 2k oneshot about Will Henry buying groceries. Oh and it’s about wholesome and sweet childhood musings, too. It’s largely inspired by this post from my bookblr because I have no sense of self-control.

There aren’t many warnings, but there are blood and abstract death mentions. Nothing front and center

Something for the Road

Being an apprentice to a monstrumologist was a demanding job. Being an apprentice to Pellinore Warthrop, on the other hand, was life-consuming. Will Henry spent his days snapping to— he read out books, listened to lectures, wrote dictation, cooked meals, scrubbed floors, played nurse, and ran to and fro at the doctor’s command.

Will’s world was that strange house on Harrington Lane. His mercurial monarch reigned the bleak throne room that was the basement with martial dedication. The doctor’s bedroom was the receiving room and his office the war room. Will was a soldier marching up and down the mountain called the second floor when needed, rushing into the kitchen for rations, and climbing up to his post at the small alcove for a brief second of rest before his lord screamed for him to be ready at arms.

The town of New Jerusalem was a foreign country. Held away at arm’s length, Will only went there to stock up the pantries or do errands. He rarely went out for social calls. If he needed to, Will would run out of the doors of the grand, imposing house on Harrington Lane and down to the streets of New Jerusalem to send letters, restock the laboratory, or buy groceries.

But... if New Jerusalem was like a foreign country, the grocer was like a little haven. Even if the days were cold, when Will stepped into the shop, warm air gusted past him and pressed kisses onto his pale cheeks. Maybe it was with all energy the business brought, the people bustling in to buy things they needed for their cozy homes and their waiting families. Maybe it was the ever-changing shelves crammed with different goods and curios, the baubles shifting every season. Maybe it was the good cheer and cheekiness of Mr. Flanagan, the grocer, or the boisterous brashness of his wife.
