"It was then she realized how fragile memories were." + Lisanna
“It was then she realized how fragile memories were.” Lisanna almost choked on those words, the act of speaking them more of an emotional toll on her than she had expected.
“Momma?” A small hand touched her arm, and Lisanna looked into Lilo’s wide eyes. “What happened next? Was the princess alright?”
Lisanna curled her fingers around her daughter’s, the small digits warm and solid. “She wasn’t for a long time. But slowly, over a great amount of time, she made new memories with the people she cared about. They loved her, still, even if she wasn’t the person they remembered, and so did she. And eventually? Eventually she was happier than she ever was before.”
A wide, tired smile spread across Lilo’s face. “That’s a nice story, Momma.” Then the little girl yawned. “One more story?” she begged, blinking furiously to beat back her encroaching exhaustion.
Patting her daughter’s hand, Lisanna gently pried it off her arm and tucked her in. “I think it’s bedtime for now. Tomorrow I’ll tell you more stories. Alright?”
Dissatisfied with that answer, Lilo opened her mouth to protest only to have another yawn prevent her from making her argument.
Lisanna laid a kiss on Lilo’s forehead. “I love you. Sweet dreams.”
“Mmm,” Lilo murmured. “Love you... too... Momma...”
