Reading Rants// Latest Reads, Ratings, etc

Starting off with my current read. Everything spoken about below I have read/ am reading through the Libby app. (I LOVVEEE the Libby app) I'll also be adding what I hope to be my next read. But without further ado, my list and opinions.

Current Read: Meeting Millie by Clare Ashton, audiobook, 14 hours, currently on Chapter 48 out of 51. This book is a slow burn, the characters have known each other for 10+ years, themes of unrequited love, lesbian x straight friendship duo, and they were roommates, and socioeconomic differences. They have drifted apart only to come back to their college town (and together?). Is 10 years too long of a wait? Is the love still unrequited or can people, sexuality, and feelings change? This book will get a 3.8 or higher, the drama has been juicy and wanting the main characters to get together while learning more of their backstory along the way has been great. I love how some of their conversations are almost a flashback to their younger selves. I have been mixed on whether I should be reading this book as an audiobook or digital version, but have stuck with the audio and honestly have been liking it. Main characters are white, set in England, two of the side characters (related, Mother and daughter) are of Indian descent or at least hints at being so, everyone else is extremely pale...literally. Update: Finished reading 09/14/2025, gave it a 3.75 as there is no way to score between 3.75 and 4.0.

I Shall Never Fall In Love- Hari Conner, graphic novel/comic, 288 pages. Finished 09/13/2025

A cute, little comic that was both informational and heartwarming. A historical piece that brings in topics of queerness and race relations. I gave this book a 4.0, it was medium paced, although the actual love attraction was more of a slow burn. This book has Bridgerton vibes and it seems that everyone gets their happy ending. Characters are diverse and feature a nonbinary character, interracial dating and marriage, and a mixed race character (appearance is more towards their African descent). My favorite part about the book were the research materials, sources, sketches, and character q&a that is after the story.

I’m on Book 4 of Rachel Reid’s Game Changer Series and I am loving how side characters in one book become main characters in another. It really puts life into perspective and shows that anyone can be the main character, because you are the main character in your life. Like ahhh, I’m actually loving this series so much, especially when the book main character has a comic relief friend/side character, YESSSSSSS!!!!! (This also makes me realize that I’m probably not going to watch the TV series…specifically because it’s based off of the first two books which are amazing starts, but yea…they were having a lot of sex and secrecy, well closeted behavior I guess)

Reading Rants// Materials

When it comes to reading, I use the Libby app. It makes everything extremely convenient and I have it downloaded on both my iPhone and laptop. (Downloaded it on my laptop because I was without my iPhone for the day and deep within the trenches of a Fiona Zedde book.) I was surprised to find that reading on a laptop makes the pages go by quicker, also that the Libby app will ask if you want to sync your reading across different devices. (You have to be signed in on both devices for this to happen/to gain access overall.)

But anyways, within the Libby app, I have three library cards attached, New Orleans, my school, and Queer Liberation Library. You can add a lot more library cards, but being that my local libraries do not use Libby, I am content with supporting the New Orleans library ( near my old school), Queer Liberation Library, and my university’s library. (Because at the end of the day, keep libraries alive!)

With the Libby app, I have dived into comics, mangas, audiobooks, fantasy, but let’s be honest most of my reads are LGBTQIA+ which takes me to my next material.

StoryGraph (attached below is a video of how its shows the genre, author, emotion, pace, etc of the books you have read… you will have to document reading the books for this to work) , I love StoryGraph, the only bone I have to pick is that it doesn’t automatically sync my to be read from Libby into it, but I don’t know an app that does. (I probably should try researching if syncing is possible.) It has helped me make reading goals and stick to them. Whether those goals are hours, books, pages, or all of the above. The features in this app also show what kind of books I am reading, ratings, and trigger warnings. Overall, I truly do love this app and it has kept me on track, although the Libby app, Instagram recs, and TikTok recs have definitely made my TBR look almost impossible.
