I was thinking of Watching six dance lessons in six weeks and I'm curious, could you tell me more about why you love that movie?
Of course! I'd be happy to do that, dear anon.
You know that moment when that "This is going to be a special one for me" feeling kicks in as soon as you start watching some movies?
Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks was one of those movies for me. I even remember the first time I watched it, 29 August 2018.
I love this movie because it's such a heartwarming, sincere, touching and meaningful movie. And the humor it has is gentle. There are some serious things going on, sure, but I love every little detail about it, I love their dialogs. Look at this one, for example:
-At our age who knows how much time we have left, why waste it arguing?
-Never stopped me.
-I noticed that, but you can't understand yet.
-You think I can't understand mortality?
-You're still enjoying the gift of youth life, Michael, and despite what my AARP newsletter claims, the world does belong to the young.
-No, it doesn't really. We're renting it, just like the rest of you.
Lily and Michael are from very different backgrounds, but they have something in common. Something most of us have common, actually.
We're human, and we don't want to be alone. We don't want to be completely lonely. We have this need for acknowledgement, we need someone to see us, the real us, and we have fears. So do Lily and Michael, despite everything.
I adore how Lily's and Michael's friendship turns into something caring and warm as they get to know each other, and I think it's easy to see yourself in the characters, to feel a connection with them. At least I know I did.
Some people might find it boring, but it deeply touched my heart. Also, I love Cheyenne Jackson's voice, his acting, well, I love him in general, and I don't even have to say anything about Gena Rowlands, I think. She is a great actress.
(I even wrote a fanfiction about this movie by the way, that's how much I love it. It's not in English though.)
If you decide to watch it, please let me know what you think after you do, I'd be so happy to hear your comments! 💕
