Meet another mid-1880s Beauty in Black but she's in a cotton sateen, hand-embroidered with a raised satin stitch, then randomly sprinkled with black glass sparkly beads. All of her faceted jet buttons and jet beaded ball trim is still attached, but sadly, she has no skirt. Inside, she is hand finished, but with the quality of a loving amateur or a provincial seamstress, definitely not a high designer house...but that doesn't take away from her charm! She is fashionably split at the side and center back, to accommodate the severe bustle shape, and there is very little boning (not removed, only a few pieces were installed) to give her shape. She's a lovely combination of matte, shine, and depth...and is in the lineup for me to lift a pattern! #extant #1880s #LilyAbsintheMuseum #handembroidered #handfinished #ohthosevictorians #theartofdress #bustledress #historicalsewing #originalsources #whatwestudy #patternourownpath #dailyextant (at Lily Absinthe Corsetry and Couture) https://www.instagram.com/p/BroUQqIDrIg/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1a529zlghai0c
